I.	Introductions

II.	Announcements
A.	Brian Light -- Progress report on supervisor adjustments to SLE punches
1.	Concerns expressed about Activity Transfers for Workstudy students. How do supervisors know when Workstudy funding terminates?
2.	Reminder that SLEs need to update Workstudy status every semester.
3.	Confusion about keeping track of which SLE is the designated workleader and should get the higher pay rate. This primarily concerns units with many SLEs.
a)	MOFF simplifies this by keeping a paper log of who is workleader, any changes of shifts (e.g. SLEs covering other SLE’s shift during unsupervised hours).
b)	LHRD has contacted some supervisors with questions about punches.
B.	Mark Marrow -- Library Safety and Security Committee-related matters
1.	Incident Reports – Circulation Supervisors will now receive other units’ Incident Reports so that all can know what’s going on in The Library.
2.	If someone affiliated with The Library experiences an incident on campus while not in the workplace (e.g., on way to/from work), call UCPD and file a report.
The information will be passed on to Miguel Labon and may be passed on to others.
3.	Have students fill out the Safety and Security Committee online survey. All who complete the survey are eligible to win an iPod. There are two surveys – one for
supervisors and another for non-supervisors and SLEs.
C.	Sheehan – Resource Referral Matrix. ACTION ITEM It is complete. He will send it to Lisa Weber so that it can be posted on the Web. Hopefully it can be altered
to accurately reflect the resources available in each unit on an ongoing basis after his tenure.
D.	Sheehan – Address change forms for GLADIS
There are many versions. He is working on formulating a new one that reflects the most useful features of all previous versions. He aims to standardize unit usage
of the form and may ask that all old versions be eliminated and that units only use the new version.
1.	Be sure they’re complete when submitted to Main Privileges for entry into GLADIS.
2.	ACTION ITEM Discussion on patron settings in GLADIS being reset; how units can ensure that e-mail settings are preserved. Penny Bertrang will check on this.
E.	Matthew Prutsman -- Date due slips
ACTION ITEM Date due slips in books for unit to which the book does not belong (e.g. Main slips in ILL books) causes confusion. Lack of date due slips can also cause
confusion. Mark Marrow will talk to Charlotte Rubens about how to alleviate confusion of Main date due slips in ILL books.
F.	Sheehan -- Extended library borrowing privileges for undergraduate SLEs.
Discussion as to what is the best way to assure that undergraduate SLEs are getting their extended library privileges added/terminated. Privileges uploads are done
every Fall. No decision on this process will be made before the end of this semester. Ideas include:
1.	Having LHRD notify Privileges of all SLE status changes;
2.	Circulation Supervisors being fully responsible for notifying Privileges of SLEs hires and separation;
3.	LHRD sending notification in reflector of SLE comings and goings.
G.	Sheehan – Informing new students of Library privileges and responsibilities.
New students may soon get information during orientation that informs them of Library privileges and rights. This will include information on fining, blocks, food/drink
policy, and general circulation services available.

III. Minutes Approval - June, July, and August 2007 – All approved

IV.	New Directions Brainstorm Session - Circulation-related wish lists.
A.	Review of yesterday morning’s Earlybird content (Betsy Wilson, Dean of University Libraries at the University of Washington, “Crystal Ball Gazing: New Directio
        or Research Libraries”, Morrison Library)
B.	New Directions is a great idea; there will be much generational change in the university, and patrons will expect that the Library will be different than in the past.
Where will the Library be positioned as state funding continues to be cut? What will the Library do well/not at all? New Directions will help Library figure some of
        this out.
C.	Will Library make use of virtual interaction prototypes (Information Island, Second Life)? Can Library once again be cutting-edge as it was 20 years ago? The Library
is losing its audience to the Web; how can Library resources be added and made more convenient for patrons?
D.	Libraries can follow other models (e.g., retail models) to serve patrons better. Reach out to patrons instead of making them come to us.
E.	Concerns about whether anything will be done with the ideas generated in the preliminary stages of New Directions. There is some cynicism among longtime employees who
have seen similar efforts stagnate. Can we offer new resources with the staffing we have?
F.	Patrons’ desires for use are beginning to direct evolution of the Library space. How are patrons using the Library? Can more collaborative space be provided?
Eating/drinking spaces? “Let’s play to what the people want.”
G.	Ideas should be entered on the New Directions blog. There will be a blogging/RSS workshop to get people acquainted with these concepts, and specifically the New Directions
        blog.

V. NRLF update – postponed
