5. New code and message for faculty manual recalled overdue blocks in the
patron file (N. Brailo for J. Ford)

1. Announcements

Rick clarified agenda item #5. This issue doesn't have to do with new
wording of faculty overdue notices, but rather the manual block message
for faculty recalled overdues that appears in the patron record.

Rick will follow up with Lorelie on the issue of canceled Sundry Debtors
to see whether all Sundry Debtors have been canceled. He will report to
the group on the CircSupe reflector.

2. Technical Training Program

Judith, Jeanne and Giulia volunteered to draft the training plan for the
library Technical Training Program. The purpose of the program is to keep
us abreast of all the changes and systems we use in our daily operations
so we may conform to the Library Technical Services Performance Standards.
Judith, Jeanne and Giulia proposed the management of the library Technical
Training Program by:

a) Management by committee
or
b) Management by a single coordinator

The training program Implementation Plan can be viewed at the following
web site:

http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/AboutLibrary/Staff/BPM/stndrds/plan.html

The training program Course Outline can be viewed at:

http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/AboutLibrary/Staff/BPM/stndrds/course.html

The Technical Training Program will need volunteer assistance.

Although the program's primary task will be to train technical services
employees it will not exclude other employees. Additional comments or
questions about the program can be sent to Jeanne, Giulia or Judith.

3. Systems Office Report

The final circulation processing program was not run on October 17th which
resulted in 45 duplicate invoices which had to be deleted in order to
avoid duplicate billing in CARS. Mindy from Loans and Receivables Office
deleted the bogus invoices.

New version of LONG screen will display the 508 (Credits) field.

New routines were added which will support NRLF merge by giving new
default circulation codes for NRLF items. Also, the new version of SHORT
screen will display the status for NRLF items with restricted and limited
circulation.

New NRLF barcodes can now be input by NRLF staff only, as part of the
accessioning process. Once the merge is complete, non-NRLF staff will be
able to input NRLF barcodes in V/Cs on Gladis, but only if the NRLF
barcode already exists in another record.

If anyone notices any unusual problems in GLADIS maintenance during the
NRLF merge contact Rick Beaubien directly at 643-9776.

4. NRLF Merge Part II

Elizabeth Stephens and Penny continued the NRLF discussion from the
previous meeting. After the merge an NRLF item discharged at a particular
unit will be routed directly to NRLF if there is no hold. Also, if a
patron wants to pick up an item at another unit i.e., at a unit that did
not discharge the item, the item will be routed to NRLF and sent to the
specified unit. On the other hand, if there is a hold and the item is
discharged at the specified unit it will be placed on the hold shelf in
that unit.

Items in transit (*cTRF-unit name) can be discharged at NRLF only;
however, the system will allow us to override and/or check out in transit
items to another borrower.

Patrons with NRLF only privilege will show up in Gladis and will have to
obtain a UC Berkeley library card at the Service Desk if they wish to use
UCB libraries.

5. Faculty manual block for recalled overdue item(s)

Nensi brought up the issue of manual blocks for faculty recalled overdue
item(s). Currently, there is no Service Desk manual block that conveys
this message. The circulation supervisors agreed that it would be helpful
to create a new manual block for faculty recalled overdues. Joyce Ford
and Peter Soriano will follow up with Penny regarding a new four letter
code and an outgoing message for faculty recalled overdues in the patron
file.

Next meeting to be announced.
