1. CARS Demonstration/Discussion: Lorelie Mansur

Lorelie Mansur presented the new Enhanced Patron Inventory
Screens that now show on Autocirc and to the general public. A
sample CARS statement with billed library books was passed out as
well as the accompanying GLADIS patron inventory which coincided
with the sample CARRS bill.

Lorelie explained the various elements of both the CARS statement
as well as the enhanced GLADIS inventory screen. The group was
also walked through the new Autocirc commands that can be invoked
using the patrons inventory screen. These included CR (Claims
Return), DC (Discharge), DCF (Discharge Free) and the Restore
command for claim return items not found in the stacks. It was
noted that it is now possible to DCF (Discharge Free) from a
patrons inventory screen only by using the
Supervisory Logon for that unit. Units are disallowed from
Discharging or Discharging Free other units items from a patron's
inventory screen.

2. Systems Report: Penny Bertrang

Penny's report related almost exclusively to the the
implementation of phase one of the CARS implementation.

The first BILL WARNINGs went out on 2/6. Automatic Bills, Bill
Cancellations, disputes, and dispute resolutions to CARS will
begin march 5th or 6th. Grace periods were standardized for ALL
units on GLADIS starting Monday February 12th. The new grace
periods for long-term, recalled and short-term items are
documentated in the initial CARS handouts of 1/29/96.

There were a number of items recalled from MISS/B from 1993 that
never had a recall notice produced due to a programming error.
The notice program was fixed to produce a regular recall notice
in such cases. Changes were made in the notice program to re-send
unacknowledged transactions such as invoices, credits, disputes,
etc. to CARS.

CARS Phase 2 was implementated on 2/12/96.

These enhancements include:

-Items on the hold pickup shelf are now displayed in the patrons
inventory.
-Discharge free is now possible from the patron inventory screen
by line number.
-Continuous Discharge Free is now possible when invoked in GLADIS

Autocirc. Now, if a terminal is in the Discharge Free mode, it
will stay that way until another command is keyed in such as DC
or CH.

-All discharges inclusive between 2/11 and 3/1, are to be
Discharged Free regardless of the command issued at Autocirc.
- The link between the patron and CARS on GLADIS is now retained
until the bill is paid or the item is Discharged Free.
-The RFR can now be placed from the detailed display.
-The display of RFR charges in the Short display now states:
"Referred for replacement or withdrawal."
-The new standardized grace periods went into effect on 2/12/96.

Actual billing on CARS will begin on March 5th or 6th as well as
some additional changes to the patron inventory screen.

Next meeting is scheduled for March 19, 1996. Room 450C Moffitt
