1. Announcements

Charles Faulhaber announced that Bancroft Library officially closed to the
public on June 1. Curators will use the Stone Seminar Room for the staging
of materials to be moved into storage. Bancroft's art collection will be
removed mid-June. The process for moving books and manuscripts will take
almost three months.

Dave Duer reported that The Chancellor hosted a reception at University
House on June 8, honoring Chancellor Emeritus Heyman and presenting the Ira
Michael Heyman Oral History.

2. Library Security Review Task Force (Mike Rancer)

Mike Rancer noted that during the past two years the incidence of petty
crime in the Library has risen dramatically. He presented to Cabinet a
proposal for the establishment of a Library Security Task Force to review
the nature of the problem and explore a wide range of options, based on the
unique needs of different library units. The proposal, which was approved
by Admin, will be presented to Roundtable as well, and a call will be
issued for volunteers. The task force is to be convened by late July and
present its recommendations by the end of November.

3. 10 Millionth Volume (Dave Duer)

At the last Cabinet meeting, it was agreed that Dave Duer would collect
stories to accompany the items selected and circulate those to Cabinet.
Isabel Stirling noted that the campus was gearing up for commemorations of
the 1906 earthquake and wondered if that might be coordinated with the 10
Millionth Volume celebration by the Library. Duer said that the event might
be coordinated with the Library Associates Dinner in the fall, along with a
catalog and highlights of donors' contributions. Cabinet members were asked
to send any recommendations for speakers to the Library Development Office.

Cabinet accepted the committee's list of recommendations as representative
across disciplines and expressed its thanks to members of the committee for
their dedicated work on this project.

4. Public Services Security Guidelines (Isabel Stirling)

July 21 was selected as the date for an Early Bird presentation of the
Public Services Security Guidelines. It was noted that the Public Services
Security Guidelines deal with processes and procedures for managing
disruptive behavior versus the preventative measures to be explored by the
Library Security Review Task Force.
