2. Budget planning web page for staff --B.Hurley
It was announced at last week's Cabinet meeting that a new budget planning
web page will keep library staff up-to-date on the Library's budget
planning process. Bernie Hurley distributed copies of the draft web page,
which contained a note from UL Tom Leonard and links to various Library
planning documents, including Values, Themes for Budget Planning,
Priorities, Policies and Procedures for Internal Reassignments, and other
budget-related information. Cabinet members were asked to send their
comments to Bernie by noon the following Monday so that the new web page
could go live on July 28.
Tom Leonard issued an allusers e-mail on July 28, announcing the new
website at:
http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/Staff/budgetplan/
He urged staff to send their comments to Unit Heads or AUL/Directors.
3. Pathfinder review -- B.Hurley, I.Stirling
Bernie Hurley and Isabel Stirling presented a proposal for launching a
review of Pathfinder. A small working group identified items to include in
the charge to a committee examining the discontinuance of
Pathfinder. Cabinet approved the Pathfinder review process and authorized
Bernie and Isabel to draft the charge for a committee to conduct a
feasibility study, which will include an inventory of the features unique
to Pathfinder and an analysis of case studies at other campuses where these
issues have been investigated. The draft charge will be brought back to
Cabinet for approval before formation of the review committee.
4. Policy and procedures for internal reassignments --K.Mitchell (2:00)
Katherine Mitchell joined Cabinet to facilitate the follow-up on policy and
procedures for internal reassignments. Cabinet members presented the ideas
and concerns that were expressed at the morning's Roundtable discussions.
In general, Roundtable felt comfortable with the policy
statement. Roundtable's suggestions for revising the procedures were
recorded using a graphic of the proposed steps in the internal reassignment
process. Bernie Hurley agreed to incorporate these ideas and issue a
revision to the "Policy and Procedures for Internal Reassignments" document
for Cabinet's final review before the policy and procedures are formally
adopted. While still under consideration by Cabinet, the draft document can
be viewed on the web at: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/Staff/budgetplan/
5. SDC and professional development limits --T.Leonard
Cabinet revisited last week's discussion on the budget for travel, training
and professional development. Cabinet clarified that the Staff Development
Committee's overall budget for the next fiscal year will not be cut and
will remain at $20,000. Individual requests for travel, training and
career development will be limited to $600 per person during FY 2003-04.
