1. Announcements

Tom Leonard reported that the Library and co-chairs of the Academic Senate
Committee on the Library are drafting a letter to be sent to all faculty
early in the fall semester. The letter will be issued by the university
librarian and address the serious collections challenges facing the campus,
specifically content reduction resulting from journal cancellations and
what faculty can do to influence what content will be retained.

Admin decided to establish a website for keeping library staff up-to-date
on the Library's budget planning process, anticipated cutbacks, priorities,
policies and procedures, etc. The new website, which will be activated
after the next Roundtable meeting on July 24, will become communication
central providing current information as well as archives of earlier
communiques on the Library's planning process. Bernie Hurley is taking the
lead on setting up the site and organizing the content.

2. Library Priorities (T.Leonard)

There being no substantive changes recommended for the Library Priorities
as developed by Cabinet and subsequently presented to Roundtable on June
26, Cabinet formally adopted the Library Priorities.

3. Budget for travel, training and development (T.Leonard)

On July 16, Admin discussed funding for Library travel, training and
development. Admin decided to cut the overall budget for
travel/training/professional development by 10%. Within that budget,
funding for training will be protected and the overall budget for the Staff
Development Committee (SDC) will not be cut. However, Cabinet decided that
SDC funding to individuals for career-related training/development and
funding for other professional development will be reduced from $800 per
person to $600 per person in the next fiscal year. It was noted that campus
will continue the Career Development Opportunity Program (CDOP) for another
year and a half, allowing up to $5,250 per person per calendar year for
training and classes to "broaden their skills and enhance their UC
careers." Job-related training continues to be the responsibility of the
individual's department and will be funded only with supervisory and AUL
approval.

For more detailed information on the CDOP renewal see:

4. Appointment of the Library Prize Committee 2003-2004 (P.Iannuzzi)

The Library Prize for Undergraduate Research program began in the 2002-2003
academic year. Up to six awards are given annually, with prizes of $750 for
lower-division projects and $1,000 for upper-division projects. The
selection committee must review applications and select those which
demonstrate most clearly "significant inquiry requiring use of the library,
its resources, and collections and learning about the research and
information-gathering process itself ."

Cabinet confirmed the following members for the Library Prize Committee
2003-2004:
Brian Quigley, Engineering (continuing member, new chair)
Lynn Jones, Instructional Services (continuing member, past chair)
Peter Hanff, Bancroft (new member)
Phoebe Janes, Research, Reference & Collections (new member)
David Sullivan, Art History/Classics (new member)
Beth Dupuis, Instructional Services (ex-officio)

An additional campus representative will be appointed from one of the
undergraduate programs.

Thanks were extended to outgoing members Bill Brown, Suzanne Calpestri,
Kathleen Gallagher, Amy Kautzman and to outgoing chair Lynn Jones for
steering the program during its first year.

5. Draft policy and procedures for internal reassignments (B.Hurley, S.Wong)

Cabinet reviewed the draft policy and procedures document, which had been
drafted by Bernie Hurley after the Cabinet discussion on July 10. Bernie
will incorporate the suggested changes and prepare a revised document for
presentation at the next Roundtable meeting. The revised Draft Policy and
Procedures for Internal Reassignments will be circulated to Roundtable in
advance of their meeting on July 24.

6. Summary of staff sessions (B.Hurley)

Bernie distributed the Overall Summary of Staff Sessions (draft v.4) to
Cabinet for final revisions. Cabinet members were asked to forward
additional comments to Bernie no later than Monday. This information will
be posted on Admin's new website and be used as handouts at the Roundtable
meeting on July 24.
