Tom Leonard reported that Professor Stephen Miller and members of the=20
Classics Department had issued invitations to a display of their=20
restoration of ancient sculpture. Cabinet members were invited to attend=20
the exhibit on Wednesday, May 14, 3:00-6:00 p.m., at 6701 San Pablo Avenue.
The morning=92s power outage on campus happened during routine maintenance=
=20
switching. Some libraries had no power while others had limited power.=20
Moffitt and Gardner Stacks were unaffected. It took about 15 minutes for=20
the generator to restore emergency lighting in Doe. The power was fully=20
restored in approximately one hour.
2. Preparation for 5/8 Early Bird (K.Mitchell)
Katherine Mitchell lead Cabinet in discussion and planning for the May 8=20
Early Bird for all library staff. Last week Cabinet outlined a format that=
=20
would include introductory remarks by Tom Leonard and explanations of the=20
Themes by various Cabinet members.

3. Theme Discussion & Revisions to Themes #2, #3, #4, #6, #8 (S.Wong)
In preparation for the 5/1 extended Cabinet Meeting; Cabinet members are=20
asked to review the 4/10 Roundtable commentary on Themes #2, #3, #4, #6,=20
#8. Themes #2, #3, #6, #8 required no changes. Theme #4 was edited to=20
state, =93The Library will continue to enhance the visibility of its role in=
=20
teaching and research, in order to gain resources needed to serve our=20
patrons.=94 The word unique was changed to distinctive in Theme #7.
4. Preview Agenda/Activity for May Library Staff Sessions (K.Mitchell)
Katherine Mitchell provided handouts of draft formats for the Staff=20
Sessions in May -- the majority of the staff session time involving=20
exercises related to =93flexibility=94 and =93fairness=94. Katherine will=
=20
incorporate Cabinet=92s suggestions to change the activities. She will=20
attend the May 12 Cabinet working session (brown bag 11:00-12:30) to=20
develop the final format and refine details of the Staff Sessions.

=20

5. START program implementation (S.Wong)
Susan Wong reported that the latest information regarding the Staff and=20
Academic Reduction in Time Program (START) is that campus Human Resources=20
Department envisions a staggered implementation beginning July 1, possibly=
=20
later at Berkeley. Comments on the Program were reviewed by David Moers and=
=20
Labor Relations. Campus guidelines for the Program will be forthcoming and=
=20
Library Human Resources Department will keep the Library advised.=20
