1. Announcements
Dave Duer invited Cabinet to see the Blue & Gold yearbooks on display in
the Moffitt Library.
Tom Leonard noted the "Reel Life Stories" exhibit in the Brown Gallery in
Doe Library. The exhibit celebrates documentary film and filmmakers and
highlights the documentary collection of the Media Resources Center in
Moffitt Library.
Library administration is monitoring all campus communications related to
the outbreaks of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Campus
established a SARS Task Force and University Health Services (UHS) will
provide regular updates on a special website. For the most current SARS
information, campus policies, travel advisories, and links to the World
Health Organization (WHO) and the national Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC), consult the website at:

2. Temporary ADA ramp for Bancroft's east entrance (C.Faulhaber)
Charles Faulhaber noted that last year Cabinet approved $8K for the
manufacture of a temporary ADA ramp for Bancroft's east entrance. Cost
proposals received from Campus Physical Plant now estimate at least four
times that amount to build and install an ADA ramp on-site. Consultations
to reduce the costs continue.
3. Debrief morning's Roundtable Plus-Part II (K.Mitchell)
The morning's Roundtable Plus-Part II involved exploration of Theme #1:
Core Functions. Cabinet members gave their impressions of the
discussions. It was agreed that groups engaged in lively conversations and
revealed nuances of the thinking behind the Post-it-Note ideas and how
various ideas were connected. Cabinet members who were stationed at each
of the nine functions agreed to synthesize the information to capture the
essence of the discussions in each of the nine functional areas:
Administrative Services, Circulation, Collections, Development,
Instruction, Public Environment, Reference, Technical Services, and
Technology.
4. Outline for May 8 Early Bird & library staff sessions (K.Mitchell,
S.Wong)
At the May 8 Early Bird for all library staff , "the triangle within the
square" will be used to illustrate how the Library's core functions relate
to the Library's goals of balancing the budget, maintaining staff morale,
and protecting the Library's services, collections, and expertise. These
functions and goals relate in a larger context to the Campus Budget
Principles, the Academic Strategic Plan, the Library Values, and the Eight
Themes for Guiding the Library. The themes, definitions of functional
areas, and the library values will also be highlighted. Four 2-hour staff
sessions will follow in May, giving staff the opportunity to participate in
small group exercises related to "flexibility" and "fairness".
