1. Announcements
Tom Leonard distributed a flyer for Cal on Campus, a pre-professional
internship program for UCB undergraduates. The program provides an
opportunity for student interns to work under the supervision of top-level
directors, managers, and faculty and gain work experience in career areas
that interest them. Interns receive a stipend of $1200 per session (spring
or fall), $600 of which is paid by the hiring unit and $600 from matching
funds provided by the Chancellor. For more information on this program see:

The campus Budget Working Group on Academic Programs and Libraries will
hold its first meeting on February 19. Tom Leonard will present a review of
the proposed cuts to the Library's operations budget and the potential
impact. The Library's budget proposal and Collections plans for cuts will
be included in the discussion.
2. Budget Reduction Planning --Susan Wong, facilitator
Susan Wong facilitated the continuing Cabinet discussion on budget
reduction planning as a follow-up to the February 6 Cabinet meeting. Susan
presented a draft timeline for February through May. Suggested milestones
for this 4-month period included collecting information from existing
documentation; scheduling extended Cabinet working sessions for framing the
priorities and providing context for broader input; facilitating staff
input on priorities and workflow efficiencies; Cabinet review of staff
input; and Early Bird presentation of the implementation plan.
For the next meeting, Cabinet members will submit their priority-related
questions to Susan and Bernie, who will compile a list and organize these
questions for discussion on February 20. Susan will confirm with Katherine
Mitchell regarding her availability to facilitate on February 20. The
conference room will be reserved for an extended Cabinet session on February 27.
