AGENDA
Katherine Mitchell, Consultant with COrE
M I N U T E S
Tom Leonard introduced Katherine Mitchell, consultant with the campus
Center for Organizational Effectiveness (COrE). Katherine led Cabinet in
an exercise to begin thinking about strategies for budget reduction.
Questions to consider include the following:
What are the desired outcomes of the budget reduction work in the Library?
What types of changes will help achieve these outcomes?
What input is needed from the Library staff as a whole?
What parameters/criteria will help people develop useful/useable input?
Who will make the final decisions about what ideas to pursue to achieve the
desired outcomes?
What can COrE and other campus departments provide?
COrE can assist in these ways:
-- gather input from several small groups or 2 half-day sessions with large
library groups
--work process improvement - a transactional process to map work flows to
increase efficiencies
--meeting effectiveness training
Cabinet/Library administration can begin by establishing parameters before
taking discussions to the greater library staff. Roundtable can be the
forum for teaching staff how to prioritize and align unit priorities with
the Library's priorities. The Library has already begun a dialogue with
staff about the budget crisis and can use Org Dev and the LHRD team to
assist as we go forward.
Flip chart notes of ideas generated at today's meeting were transcribed and
distributed to members for use in the next Cabinet discussion. Katherine
reorganized the notes among various themes and will attend the Cabinet
meeting on January 30, to continue this process.
