ANNOUNCEMENTS
--Cabinet agreed that the morning Roundtable meeting was a success and
extended thanks to B.Glendenning for permission to serve coffee and tea at
future Roundtable meetings.
.
--C.Faulhaber announced that, as part of the Library's surge process, the
processing unit of the Regional Oral History Office (ROHO) will occupy the
Smythe Fernwald house located above the Clark Kerr Campus. The house has
been unoccupied for about a year, and Faulhaber reported that campus had
agreed to commit $100,000 from campus deferred maintenance funds to cover
the costs of the required renovations, noting that the facility is not
secure enough to house the Mark Twain Project. Parts of ROHO will move
into the Doe core when the Chemistry Library moves back to Hildebrand Hall.

Reclassification Guidelines --L.Leighton
On April 18, Cabinet accepted interim guidelines recommended by the Task
Force on Reclass Policy and Procedures, and all reclasses now must go
through the AULs and directors. L.Leighton reported that the
Classification Committee is progressing quickly on revising the local
Berkeley specs for reclasses in the Library Assistant (LA) series. The
Classification Committee will meet again on May 13 to review the work
prepared by its sub-groups.
No clarification has been given regarding the decentralization of salary
increases resulting from reclassifications and the library does not have
budget figures, but salary increases due to reclassifications will impact
the library's budget. The Task Force on Reclass now recommends consistency
in salary increases resulting from reclassifications.
In job classifications with stepped increases, the increases are controlled
by contract and limited to about 4%, 5%, or to the bottom of the next
range. Given that staff will get salary increases through seniority in the
open series, the reclass task force noted that interim guidelines for open
series jobs could follow the policy for jobs with steps. The task force
recommended that Cabinet approve interim guidelines in open ranges, such as
LAV, similar to those for classifications with stepped increases.
Cabinet agreed and approved an interim policy limiting reclassification
salary increases to 5% or to the bottom of the open range for reclasses
into jobs in open ranges.
Meeting adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
