Library Budget FY 2001-02 (M.Rancer)

At last week's meeting, Cabinet began reviewing the subgroup lists of
budget requests for New Initiatives, Furniture and/or Facilities, and
Equipment. Each AUL/Director discussed briefly their priorities before the
subgroups convened to review the budget requests and prepare budget
recommendations in each category. At today's meeting, Cabinet continued
the discussion from last week and included a number of other issues
pertinent to this year's budget development.

The $1.2 million non-recurring funds in the Collections Budget will carry
forward and be made available at the end of next year to meet future needs
as the Library anticipates leaner budget years ahead. M.Rancer reported
that the Collections money appears sufficient to cover next year's inflation.

The new recurring salary commitments already made will consume the
$181,000 operating margin. Mike will rerun the budget forecast and
incorporate the confirmed commitments.

There are a number of dormant projects, including the EAL Pin Yin
conversion, Bancroft's pictorial collection cold storage, and others,
funding for which may be available if other categories come in under
budget. F.Yasaki distributed the current Space Planning list indicating
time lines for each project. This will be useful in determining Space
Planning's availability to assist with new or revived projects.

Cabinet adjourned early to allow time for the Budget Subgroups to continue
their deliberations.
[Note: Cabinet continued discussions of the budget details at meetings on
June 14 and June 21, for presentation at Roundtable on June 28.]
