A G E N D A

1. Excellence in Public Services - Final Report (I.Stirling)

Isabel Stirling brought to Cabinet the "Report of the Excellence in Public
Service Task Force, Phase I: Goals for Circulation Services", which was
endorsed by Roundtable on April 12. Cabinet expressed thanks to the
members of the subcommittee and its chair, Elizabeth Byrne. Since the
recommendations contained in the report do not include budget information,
any budgetary needs for the implementation of specific recommendations
should be directed to the appropriate AUL/Director. Cabinet adopted the
report and authorized incorporating the Goals for Circulation Services into
the Public Service Manual for use by all library staff.

2. Budget FY 2001-2002 (M.Rancer)

Mike Rancer distributed budget summaries, noting that the forecasts did not
include the budget proposal requests submitted to EVCP Gray. Cabinet
agreed that the $1 million allocation to the Library made at the time of
Tom Leonard's appointment should be reserved to cover inflation and hire
Technical Services staff and should remain off the "working budget" until
we receive notification regarding the requests submitted earlier to EVCP
Gray.

On April 12, Cabinet discussed the budget categories and decided that no
general calls will be issued this year for new positions, GA, or
S&E. Instead, units will be advised to consult directly with their
AUL/Directors, and the AUL/Directors will cover GA and S&E from their
contingency funds and bring any staffing needs to Cabinet.

Budget calls will be issued to Roundtable for Equipment (over the amount of
$1500), Furniture and/or Facilities, and New Initiatives. Cabinet members
were assigned to budget subgroups and will appraise and rank budget
proposals after the proposals have been vetted by the appropriate AUL.

[Note: This year's budget process was discussed at the Roundtable meeting
on April 26.]

3. Interactive University Presentation (B.Hurley)

Bernie Hurley queried Cabinet about arranging a presentation on the
Interactive University Project for a future Cabinet meeting. Cabinet
decided that it was important to involve a wider audience and that
Roundtable would be the appropriate group. Bernie will make the
arrangements for a presentation to Roundtable on May 10.

4. Commencement Event on the Doe Classical Terrace (M.Rancer)

The Bioengineering Department has requested use of the Classical Terrace at
the north entrance to Doe Library for a commencement event on Saturday, May
19, noon-2:00 p.m. Cabinet approved use of the space for the event with
stipulations that loudspeakers may not be used, access to the Library's
north entrance must not be blocked, and the Bioengineering Department must
take responsibility for full clean up after the event. Mike Rancer will
notify the department of the conditional approval.
