A G E N D A

1. Student Wage Rates (J.Dost)

J. Dost distributed a memo on pay increases for library student employees.
The document summarized the current student titles and pay rates compared
to the proposed new titles and corresponding pay rates as follows:

Current Titles & Hourly Pay
Student Assistant II, $7.50
Student Assistant III, $8.50
Clerk, $9.55

New Titles & Hourly Pay
Assistant I, Step 1, $8.50
Assistant I, Step 2, $9.50
Assistant I, Step 3, $10.50

Roundtable discussed the issue at its September 14 meeting and agreed that
increasing student wages is important for recruitment and retention of
student workers in the library. LHRD proposes to change all current student
PAFs to reflect these increases effective October 1. Cabinet approved.

All unit heads and student supervisors should continue to staff their units
as usual. Cabinet will review the Library GA budget in January to determine
if reallocations are necessary.

2. University Policy on Casuals (J. Dost, M.Rancer)

M.Rancer distributed a summary of the revisions to policies regarding
casual employment at the University. It is anticipated that these new
policies will be implemented on January 1, 2001. In the meantime, the
Library must determine how best to accommodate the changes. Cabinet
discussed possible implications and impact upon library units. J.Dost will
e-mail to Cabinet a proposal with FAQs regarding a revised library policy
on employment of casuals. The topic will be included on the Roundtable
agenda at its meeting on October 12.

3. Cabinet Discussion re: Organizational Culture ( L.Leighton)

As a follow-up to the joint Cabinet/OCC session on September 21, Cabinet
reviewed the progress to date. OCC received 173 responses to the "Pick 6"
survey and announced a series of staff meetings (October 4, 5, 6, and 9) in
which action initiatives will be developed for each of the most important
values chosen by library staff. OCC will share the list of action
initiatives with Cabinet after the October staff sessions. It was
suggested that OCC publish a CU News article and present an all staff Early
Bird to mark the successful conclusion of this important process on library
values.

4. Council Review: Next Steps (L.Leighton)

Cabinet decided to accept the Council Review Group's recommendations for
improvement and conduct a review of the council structure at the end of
another year. Cabinet agreed that a review of the Roundtable group and its
mission should await the arrival of the permanent university librarian. The
incoming university librarian will have ideas about the advisory structure
and help define the appropriate roles for the subject and function councils.
