1. Organizational Culture Committee joint meeting
B. Ogden thanked Cabinet for its willingness to meet with the OCC and said
the purpose of the joint meeting was to garner advice and the participation
of Cabinet members.
P. Daniels presented an overview of relevant OCC documents. The documents
included a flowchart of the Committee’s progress from the summer of 1999
through fall 2000 and its plans for 2001; a draft statement of purpose; a
library values statement; a copy of their “Pick 6” survey; draft action
initiatives; and a timetable through August 8, 2000.
C. Campbell reported on the “Pick 6” survey results. 173 surveys were
returned, and the top 9 were discussed. Value number 30 (We actively
pursue a pay structure competitive with the market for all classifications
represented in the Library) received the most votes, 113. M. Ternberg
observed that the values contain few references to our patrons. K. Mitchell
pointed out that staff often have to be comfortable with their work
environment before they can effectively serve their clientele.
B. Ogden led the discussion on exploring action initiatives. The category
of values receiving the most votes was collegiality and cooperation.
Cabinet and the Committee discussed elements of our climate which were
problems in that category and possible actions that might be taken.
The OCC will share the survey results with Library staff, continue to
discuss action initiatives, and return to Cabinet to continue deliberations.
2. Student pay rates
J. Dost is awaiting information from the campus about student pay rates.
The AULs and Directors will poll their units about the number of current
student vacancies and their student GA budgets.
[Note: Effective October 1, 2000, the pay rates were increased for library
student workers.]
