II. OLD BUSINESS
A. FSM Café Educational Programs Task Force --J.Lowell
Cabinet approved the nominations for membership and the following individuals
have agreed to serve on the FSM Café Educational Programs Task Force:
William Brown, Bancroft Library (chair)
Meredith Fleming, DMCS/Moffitt Circulation
Joan Gatten, Library Systems Office
Sue Koskinen, Environmental Design Library
Vanessa Tait, South/Southeast Asia Library Service
Alex Warren, Morrison Library
Margy Wilkinson, Technical Services/Order Division
III. NEW BUSINESS
A. Developing a Waiver of Liability for Non-Library Materials Exhibited by the
Library --P.Iannuzzi
P.Iannuzzi suggested the need for a waiver of liability for non-library
materials exhibited by the Library, since the Library provides a venue for
exhibits but exhibitions are not our primary business. It was noted that
Bancroft Library lends its materials only if the borrower assumes
responsibility for loss, and the East Asian Library lends books to museums and
libraries whose institutions provide their own insurance coverage. Sample
language was collected from policy statements at other institutions and a draft
statement for a waiver of liability presented to Cabinet for review.
P.Iannuzzi and M.Rancer will refine the language in the statement of waiver of
liability to ensure that it meets the university’s legal standards and prepare
a final draft for Cabinet’s approval.
B. Budget 2000/2001 --J.Lowell
J.Lowell distributed a “Draft Plan for Preparation of 2000/01 UC Berkeley
Library Budget” and the “Budget Model: FY 1999-2002”. The budget model,
prepared last year, provided a forecast over a 3-year span and itemized broad
categories for both the sources of funds for operations and operating
expenditures. These budget model categories were adopted by Cabinet based upon
known sources of revenue and expected expenditure needs. Cabinet will continue
its discussions of specific categories for expenditures in the development of
this year’s budget and take appropriate issues to Roundtable for additional
input.
The Cabinet agenda for April 20 will include discussions on the
travel/training/education budgets and the process for the budget call to be
issued to Roundtable.
