1. Prioritization of Facilities Projects --J.Lowell, F.Yasaki
(continued from last week’s Cabinet meeting)

After last week’s Cabinet meeting, F.Yasaki, I.Stirling, M.Rancer and E.Meltzer
met to determine rankings on the list of facilities projects in the Library and
prepared a draft list for Cabinet’s review. Cabinet members offered
suggestions on options for dealing with facilities projects operationally,
given that some require architectural or space planning expertise while others
are order processing and installations. AULs offered their support to ease the
workload during this period of staff shortage in the facilities unit. F.Yasaki
will reissue the “Move Guidelines”, and J.Lowell will meet with M.Rancer,
F.Yasaki, P.Iannuzzi and I.Stirling to discuss ways to divide responsibilities
and disperse the workload.

2. i-drive.com and UCB --E.Meltzer, R.Moon, I.Stirling

E.Meltzer, R.Moon and I.Stirling announced to Cabinet that campus IST is
guaranteeing all UCB students access through i-drive.com, an internet hard
drive that provides free file management and universal access services. R.Moon
emphasized that i-drive is for use by library patrons. Library staff use the
library’s shared server. Campus IST will be giving Quickstart classes on
i-drive in labs and residence halls. Cabinet discussed some of the
implications of i-drive in the library (such as patrons downloading files,
contractual agreements, copyright, teaching, service responsibilities, cost,
etc.) and referred the topic to Public Services Council to fold into its
computer use policies for the Library.

3. Update on Commission on Undergraduate Education (CUE) --E.Meltzer

E.Meltzer serves on the Commission on Undergraduate Education, which was formed
a year ago. Other members include Dean Porter, Vice Chancellor Padilla, other
UCB faculty and students. CUE has forwarded two items to the Chancellor:
--Pilot for a Chancellor’s Distinguished Faculty Advisory Program to help
undergraduate students shape their careers. Award of $1,000 and honorific
acknowledgements.
--Proposal to set up a Teaching, Learning and Technology group on
campus.

A sub-group of CUE established a framework and sequence for shaping the
undergraduate career:
Cornerstone: one or two basic courses
Middle phase: major and methods courses
Capstone experience: final thesis
