ANNOUNCEMENTS:
--At its November 4 meeting , Public Services Council identified two items
for Cabinet's action. 1) Re-assemble Doe's interdisciplinary reference
collection and rebuild services, and 2) Re-establish an undergraduate
library and its services, in concurrence with the recommendations of the
Undergraduate Library Task Force. It was noted that the Task Force on
Information and Reference Services within Doe and Moffitt has been launched
and will address reference services, and that action on the Undergraduate
Library Task Force awaits the arrival of the new Associate University
Librarian and Director, Doe/Moffitt.
--Technical Services has invited the Admin group to tour the Technical
Services operation. This is perhaps the first of serveral tours of other
units.
--LHRD will survey units for information to update the library's personnel
database.
--The Library's Holiday Party will be December 17, 3:00-5:00 pm in the
Morrison Room. J.Lowell has polled library heads about closing the subject
libraries early that day so all staff can attend the entire party. It has
also been suggested that we take another all staff photograph that day.

1. HOPS Meeting Report --K.Frohmberg, E.Meltzer
K.Frohmberg and E.Meltzer attended the HOPS meeting and reported to Cabinet
that LSTA has granted $100,000 to the Metropolitan Cooperative Library
System to purchase Webline.com, which is a web-based telephone customer
service software. The software is designed to categorize and track calls
and appears useful for remote reference service in libraries. K.Frohmberg
and E.Meltzer will consult with J.Koyama regarding the pilot program at
UCLA and other southern UC campuses and discuss with Public Services
Council. PSC will review and prepare a proposal for Roundtable's review
and discussion. Cabinet will make the final decision.
2. User Surveys for Administrative Services, Technical Services, and Systems
--L.Leighton
The Customer Service Task Force recommended that support units within the
library conduct user surveys. Cabinet discussed several ways of handling
user surveys and decided to fold the unit surveys into the larger
organizational renewal process in conjunction with the work now being done
by the Organizational Culture Committee. Since the surveys involve
internal customer service issues, Cabinet tentatively recommended
delegating to OCC the priorities for conducting unit surveys. E.Meltzer
noted the WebSurveyor site license purchased by CDL. The WebSurveyor
software is available for all campus libraries to use and is capable of
conducting up to fifteen concurrent surveys.
