1. AIDS Memorial --L.Leighton

A.Warren chairs a campus committee formed to construct an AIDS Memorial on
campus. Library employees L.Leighton and W.Benemann are also represented
on the committee, which has been asked to submit a proposal to Vice
Chancellor Jewell, who is shepherding the process with the support of
Chancellor Berdahl. The committee has suggested holding a competition
among architects and landscape architects with awards of $500, $300, and
$200 going to the winners. The committee plans to raise sufficient funds
to build and maintain the memorial in perpetuity. One of the light courts
between the historic Doe structure and the Annex has been identified as a
potential site for the memorial, and the committee is consulting with the
appropriate campus authorities regarding this location.

2. Staff/Manager Informational Lunches --C.Faulhaber

C.Faulhaber inquired about the possibility of establishing a program of
informational lunches for managers and their staff. Library units have
developed various ways of communicating with staff and recognizing staff
accomplishments, usually involving group meetings or celebratory gatherings
rather than lunches with individual staff members. C.Faulhaber, B.Hurley,
M.Rancer, and J.Spohrer will prepare a proposal outline after consultations
regarding campus policies for such programs.

3. Fee-Based Digitization Service --C.Faulhaber

C.Faulhaber proposed offering a fee-based digitization service for Library
patrons. Staff in Bancroft, Library Photographic Services, and Geographic
Information Systems have expressed interest in an online program provided
the Library can obtain campus approval to set up the requisite recharge
system. The issue will be forwarded to the Administrative Council for
discussions with representative personnel from Bancroft, LPS, and GIS.

4. Top 7 Librarian Positions --J.Lowell

Earlier in July, Cabinet selected the following 5.5 FTE critical librarian
positions to be filled this fiscal year: Circulation Head for Doe-Moffitt;
Engineering Librarian; two Reference Librarians; Social Sciences Datat
Librarian; and .50 FTE College of Environmental Design Archivist (on hold
pending approval of CED's portion of the funding for this shared position).

Cabinet reviewed the briefing papers and discussed details for each of the
following positions: Environmental Design Librarian (.5FTE), Engineering
Librarian, Metadata Librarian, and Electronic Text Librarian. Cabinet will
select among this group the 1.5 FTE remaining to be filled. No decision
was made at this meeting.
