1. CAG Recommendations for Additional Allocations -M.Rancer, B.Weil
M.Rancer and B.Weil will attend the Senate Library Committee meeting on
Tuesday, May 11, to discuss the LibraryM-^Rs Collections Budget and additional
allocations as recommended by the Collections Advisory Group. M.Rancer
distributed copies of the two charts to be presented in that meeting. The
chart labeled M-^SFY 1998-99 Collections BudgetM-^T ($12.548 million) illustrates
the incoming resources and how they are allocated for expenditure. The
M-^SAllocation of New FundsM-^T ($3.5 million) reflects expenditure of the
ChancellorM-^Rs Initiative Funds and the one-time state money. B.Weil
distributed a summary of the CAG recommendations indicating whether items
were one-time or permanent funding. In addition, the CAG recommendations
were categorized as M-^Soff-the-topM-^T items of benefit librarywide (e.g.,
binding, interlibrary borrowing costs, digital library content, UL reserve)
and funding distributed to resource groups for their discretionary use.
2. SOPAG Report -B.Hurley
The plan to begin delivering periodicals during the next phase of Request
was approved at the joint UL/SOPAG meeting on April 29. Also discussed at
the joint meeting was the topic of a centralized cataloguing authority
designed to create cataloguing records for CDL hosted digital items. The
ULs proposed instead a pilot program to explore how these records would
display in Melvyl and to determine the cost savings potential. A task
force on Archiving Print in the Digital Environment and the Resource
Sharing Committee are two new UL advisory groups.
3. UC Resource Sharing Committee -B.Hurley
The Resource Sharing Committee (RSC) is an all campus group reporting to
the Systemwide Operations and Planning Advisory Group (SOPAG). The charge
is to identify and discuss policy issues and recommend best practices to
facilitate sharing of library materials among the campuses. The committee
will be comprised of one representative from each campus library system.
C.Rubens has been the UCB representative on the HOPS-ILL committee, and
Cabinet decided that she should also be the UCB library representative on
the new Resource Sharing Committee, at least until the new AULs arrive and
we review membership on all systemwide committees.
4. HR Forms Online -J.Dost
J.Dost proposed putting the most frequently used personnel forms online.
LHRD is prepared to begin immediately with the M-^SblueM-^T form (Appointment
Change PAF Request) using interactive fields on a Word document for
attachment to email. Next online forms would include those related to
student employment. Cabinet approved.
