AGENDA
1. Customer Service Task Force Report --J.Barker
J.Lowell thanked J.Barker and all the members of the Customer Service Task
Force for their review of customer service issues and for their work in
preparing the report. J. Barker led the initial discussion of the task
force’s report, which had been distributed earlier by email to Cabinet for
review. The task force recommended that the Library: adopt a mission
statement for the Library that emphasizes customer service; conduct initial
and periodic surveys to evaluate user expectations and satisfaction levels
for both external and internal customers; provide and support programs of
training, leadership, and rewards to sustain excellent customer service.
Cabinet was very pleased with and strongly supported the task force
recommendations. Some concerns were expressed regarding parts of the
narrative, and J.Barker agreed to discuss specific points with the task
force membership and determine whether or not they wished to revise
selected sections of the narrative. The entire task force was invited to
bring the document to a future Roundtable meeting for discussion. The
final report will be posted on the web.
2. Compensation for Weekend Work during Seismic Moves --B.Kornstein
It is anticipated that staff will be needed to work weekends when the
Environmental Design Library moves from Wurster Hall into Moffitt Library
to accommodate the seismic work in Wurster. This situation has prompted
questions regarding current Library policies on straight time pay,
over-time pay, and comp time (time off given in lieu of pay). J.Dost will
prepare a draft of the various pay policies and bring back to Cabinet for
review and decision.
3. Leave Without Pay for Academic Study --J.Spohrer
Over the last several years, requests have been made (and granted) for
leave without pay from staff wishing to pursue academic study. After a
brief discussion, Cabinet requested a review of the current policies and
asked that the Library develop clear and consistent guidelines for
supervisors to use in granting such requests. J.Dost will lead Cabinet
through the current Human Resources contracts and policies at the Cabinet
meeting on April 15.
