Meeting Content
1. Announcements – Updates
• Linda Vida spoke highly of a presentation Nick Robinson made on OCLC’s “Digital Archive” tool. CC would like to hear from Nick on this, and Linda agreed to invite him. Linda also mentioned that OCLC seems to be changing the service pretty substantially. The Affiliateds who are using this tool now are in a slightly anxious “wait and see” mode.
• ADMIN has approved Public Service Council’s proposal to raise the standard book replacement charge from $100 - $150. John Roberts remembers that the last time this occurred there was a vetting process with faculty. Chuck will take with ADMIN about this.
• UC Berkeley Library has agreed to be a development partner with Portico on a pilot project for e-book preservation. Chuck has asked EBAG to be the “go-to” group for this pilot.
• Barclay reported that the “At Risk Materials” project with the subject specialty libraries is going forward smoothly. Two new byproducts: Preservation is working with campus to clean some air ducts that were adversely affecting book stacks and Preservation is now looking into oversize bookends for shelves that need them.
• The recruitment for the Acquisitions Librarian has begun in earnest.
2. Planning for turnover meeting July 3
The next meeting will include our new members as well as Susana and Norma (who will rotate off thereafter.) CC suggested we discuss: what was begun this year, what was finished, and what carries forward; CC’s and subject council representatives’ roles and responsibilities.
3. Custodial Collections Task Force Report Feedback
There was good discussion on the report. Chuck will pull points together for further discussion at our next meeting.
4. Selector Annual Reports
Chuck distributed a draft calendar and a template for selector annual reports for CC comment. The new process will begin this year with selectors providing a brief annual report in the summer together with a request for either a permanent or one-time adjustment to their base appropriation. These will be reviewed by Collections Council. The calendar provides for two further timetables depending on whether or not the campus infuses our funds for 2007-2008.
Summer Meetings:
July 3, July 17, August 7, August 21.
