A. Announcements:
1. The binding issue has been resolved. Preservation has found some money
to cover the binding budget deficit so no money will need to taken from cd
funds. However this issue needs to be addressed for the future. Plus the
following question was raised: how does expected cancellation of serials
translate into savings for the binding budget?
3. The next CC meeting is January 7. The second December meeting will be
cancelled.
4. Margaret Phillips returns to her ERL position Jan. 6. Patty has been in
contact with her regarding her transition back to work.
5. There will be a CDC conference call in the next couple of weeks. Patty
mentioned a few items for discussion.
6. OCLC/ECO renewal. Beth reported that our ECO titles are up for
renewal. The OCLC 2003 access fee is $12 per title. Currently 2500
periodicals are available for ordering. We currently have about 80-90
active orders through ECO. Beth will get the spreadsheet mounted on the CD
web page and send selectors a notice. Beth will coordinate the renewal
until Margaret returns in January.
7. Proquest urls. Subject Council members are being contacted for their
input. Science Council members have recommended that all Proquest urls for
science titles be removed from GLADIS and then issue level urls be added
back for selected titles. Beth has posted messages to the SSC and AHC
reflectors asking for their comments.
8. The UC US History/Women's Studies Consortia will be meeting all day at
UCB on Monday Dec. 9.
B. Elsevier memo to selectors
Patty distributed a draft Elsevier memo to selectors that provides
background information regarding the relationship of print to electronic
journal access at Berkeley, specifically related to Elsevier titles plus
provides a summary of our collections budget environment with our need to
cut $700,000 of recurring funds from 2003/04. It also includes a
timeline for cancellations. A spreadsheet of Elsevier titles will
accompany the memo. The document was reviewed and discussed and a few
minor changes made.
Action: Patty will forward revised memo to selectors later today.
C. Kluwer titles
CDL has requested that campuses notify them if they want to add any new
Kluwer titles to the existing contract. These will be flipping in 2004.
Selectors who want to add titles will have to fund them.
Action: Patty will forward the Kluwer title list to selectors today for
their review and decision.
D. One Time Funding Proposals
Subject Council reps presented proposals their council members submitted
for funding along with their recommendations. There was a smaller number
of requests this year indicating selector caution during a lean budget
period. The proposals were discussed and decisions were made to fund
either fully or partially most of the proposals submitted. Included for
consideration were a few DILIB proposals.
Action: Patty will revise the spreadsheet indicating the amount that will
be funded for each title and forward to selectors.
E. DILIB issues
Postponed.
Next Collections Council meeting: January 7
Next recorder: Beth Weil
