Present: J Gordon, R. Green, P. Iannuzzi (chair), S. Khanaka (recorder), J.
McKenzie, B. Sibly, C. Wanat, B. Weil
1. Announcements
CC meetings to be held on a biweekly basis through the rest of the calendar
year. The Council's next meeting is on October 22nd.
P. Iannuzzi to send the charge for the Unified Government Documents
Collection's Task Force to Collection Council.
The Library is up for depository review. Rebecca L'hermitte will be
contacting individual selectors asking for input.
2. AUL candidates
P. Iannuzzi wanted to hear CC member's opinions about each of the five AUL
candidates directly. Each candidate's strengths and weaknesses were
discussed. CC sent a summary of their comments to the chair of the search
and Screen Committee.
3. Budget reduction
P. Iannuzzi suggested that this discussion be postponed for a special
budget meeting on October 22nd meeting when more CC members would be
present. Members were encouraged to think about ways to reduce spending
while preserving the integrity of the collection. Suggested topics were:
- How spending reduction was done in the past
- Canceling by format
- A&I, ScienceDirect.
- Newspaper reduction recommendations
- Binding group's recommendations
- The use of ILL and Baker services
- Serials & microform
4. New Serial titles
The first year of new serials funding will be permanently deducted from
base monograph allocations.
A working group was formed to come up with procedures for adjusting
allocations between monographic and serial funds to cover new, cancelled,
and ceased titles.
Members of the group are: R. Green, B. Weil, J. Bussell, J. Gordon, and S.
Khanaka
5. Science Direct Invoice
This invoice needs to be paid soon. A new fund will be created for this
purpose. Money for this fund will be deducted from individual selector
funds that have subscriptions to titles included.
6. P. Iannuzzi suggested that despite the tight budget, we need to separate
one time from recurring funds and consider a call for one time funding
needs. There are legitimate needs related to new programs, collections
with less attention due to lack of selector, exchange rates, etc. It was
agreed to send a call, to use principles developed by Alan Ritch and CC
last year, to limit the funds to no more than $200,000, and to decide what
to fund after the requests are received and reviewed.
