Collections Advisory Group Minutes - August 12, 1998 Present: B. Weil (chair), M. Burnette, S. Calpestri, G. Ford (guest), D. Fortner, K. Frohmberg, B. Glendenning, B. Hurley (guest), B. Kornstein, L. Leighton (guest), J. Spohrer, A. Urbanic, C. Wanat (recorder) 1. Frohmberg distributed a revised set of statistics from SilverPlatter web-based indexes. There still appears to be a problem with the July statistics (with many indexes showing virtually no usage in July, though substantial use in earlier months). Frohmberg will send out updated statistics as she receives them from SilverPlatter. 2. Weil distributed some Web of Science brochures; she reminded attendees about the Web of Science demo to be held on August 14th. 3. Leighton reported that the Order Division had been asked about encumbrances for tax & postage being added to monographic orders. While the encumbrance had been $5 for the past year, it has been changed this year to $10 for items up to $75; $20 for items between $76 and $200; and 10% for items costing over $200. Rebecca Green will disseminate this information to the selector group. 4. Spohrer had a correction for the July 1st minutes, in the section regarding the number of ProQuest titles without full-text. The section should now read: "According to Esther Fulsaas, who catalogued the titles in the set, at present ProQuest contains 1118 titles, 418 of which do not have full electronic text." 5. There was discussion of the draft set of priorities for collection allocation increases for FY1999. A number of clarifications, changes & additions were made to the document which will be used as a discussion item at the selectors meeting scheduled for Friday, August 14th. 6. The agenda for the Selectors Early Bird on August 14th was reviewed. Selectors will be told that serials inflation for the coming year will be covered and that, at this stage, they can count on getting their last year's base monographic allocation plus/minus any carryforward. Allocation of new collection money from the Chancellor's initiative will be determined at a later date.
