DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE CARD AND LINE FORMATS
CARD format
Displays up to 14 boxes per screen.
Has the following display limitations:
The box-specific NOTE field truncates after the 1st 10 characters.
The COVER DATE truncates (omitting the year) if there is a day of the month
or combined month present.
The box-specific NOTE and TRANSACTION DATE cannot be viewed simultaneously
since they share the same physical space in the box.
LINE format
Displays up to 5 boxes per screen.
All fields display in their entirety.
CODING THE DISPLAY FORMAT WHEN SETTING UP NEW CARDS
When setting up card parameters, indicate which of the 2 formats you want
as the default display (i.e., the one that will come up first when a title is
searched).
C Card display
L Line display
For most titles, you will select the CARD display as the default, since it enables
you to view more issues per screen. The LINE display is used for unnumbered
series (since they must be checked in by author/title in the note field) or
for situations where truncation of cover date information could cause confusion
in check-in.
MOVING BETWEEN DISPLAY FORMATS
Regardless of which display is selected as the default, you can toggle to
the other display in maintenance mode.
Key M < MAINTENANCE mode >
Then key the appropriate display code.
L < LINE display >
C < CARD display >
This does not change the default settings in your parameters. Two additional maintenance mode commands enable you to toggle between the NOTE
and TRANSACTION DATE fields without leaving the card display.
T < TRANSACTION DATE >
N < NOTE >
