BERKELEY TECHNICAL SERVICES DISCUSSION GROUP
MEETING MINUTES

Wednesday, October 3, 2001
Recorder: Lisa Sanchez
9:00am to 11:00am
303 Doe Library

Announcements:

There were no announcements.

Agenda:

Collections Core Services / Rebecca Green

Rebecca Green gave an overview of the function and duties of the
Collection Core Services. In May, the Order Division changed its name to
the Collections Core Services. The change was needed in order to make the
name more representative of the five units that the Division
encompasses: Order, Payments, Out-of-Print, Undergraduate Course Reserves
and Innopac Management. BTECH members were introduced to unit
representatives who explained their duties and answered questions.
Rebecca announced that the Order Unit is on the verge of filling two staff
positions soon to ease backlogs and speed up turnaround times.

Yellow Barcodes / Charis Takaro

Charis discussed the scanning of yellow barcodes. She wants to
find out if canary barcodes are as problematic as blue barcodes. She
requested that members test canary barcodes and contact her if
any units have trouble with scanning. Problems that can occur might
depend on the scanner (gun or wand) and/or age of the barcode. If you
experience any problems either with a scanner or a barcodes, please
contact Charis. Charis reported on her findings about light-adhesive
piggybacks that would be less detrimental to books. She said that vendors
could supply them but that they would be twice as costly and would leave a
sticky residue behind. Clearly, this topic needs to be investigated
further.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:15 am.
