BERKELEY TECHNICAL SERVICES DISCUSSION GROUP
MEETING MINUTES

June 7, 2000
Recorder: Judith Weeks

Announcements:

INNOPAC fiscal close deadlines for FY 1999/2000
Rebecca Green sent out a reminder to allusers on June 6th regarding
the fiscal close. Friday, June 23, is the last date that orders can be
created or canceled for FY 1999/2000. Thursday, June 29, is the last date
to key INNOPAC record updates which do NOT affect liens or fund balances.
On Friday, June 30, the INNOPAC system will be shut down for
fiscal close procedures and conversion of account numbers to the new
campus Chart of Accounts. She will announce when INNOPAC system activity
resumes. These deadlines are based on current Campus fiscal close
deadlines and are subject to alteration if Campus deadlines change.

LARS/III update

They are still having problems with the LARS/III interface for the
book bindery. The latest message that came out on the reflector was:
During the week of May 1, the LARS portion of the interface was downloaded
at the UC Bookbindery in Culver City. Testing revealed some scripting
problems requiring programming rewrites. The testing was done from a
remote site while the Bookbindery was closed. Further work on the
module should occur the end of May/beginning of June.

INNOPAC

As you may all be aware, the binding portion of INNOPAC still does
not work. Innovative is unable to solve the problem. It is unknown at this
time when and if the problem will be solved.

Agenda:

BPM Procedure for Binding - Gary Quien and Judith Weeks

The Binding section of Berkeley Processing Manual has been revised in
a rough draft form. The document was sent as a word attachment to all
BTECHGRP members for review. The document will soon be edited into a
HTML document with appropriate links.

Gary briefly went through the revised document with the group. There
was a brief discussion on content which included a few questions regarding
placement of piggyback barcodes and supplements. It was noted that this
document could never be in anyway a substitute for local binding
training or procedures, but instead a resource for people to turn to for
answers for some of their binding questions. It gives a general overview
of the binding process.

When the document is mounted to the Library Web, please take the time
to again look at it, check the links and forward any comments or
suggestions on changes you may have to Judith or Gary. We really want your
feedback on the document. If you have any suggestions for keywords ("META
tags") that you think would be helpful when searching the new document on
the web, please forward them to Pam, Judith or Gary.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 am.
