Agenda

Systems Office Update - Ralph Moon

Current status of the PC EXPERT program:

There is a larger picture than what we see. It was suggested that PSAG/TS,
Kate Fletcher, and LWNS get involved to facilitate answers. If there is no
PC Expert in your unit presently, appoint one. The first PC EXPERT training
will most probably occur the 3rd week of Oct.

room 105 has been upgraded.
Unit Heads should require PC experts to attend PC EXPERT meetings.

Library wide discrepancies in the upgrades to Windows 95:
The guidelines were taken from the AULs. LWNS only had money for 2/3rds
of the upgrades halfway through last fiscal year. Most upgrades have now
taken place at workstations, next upgrades will be for the public pcs.

OUTSIDE VIEW PROBLEMS, OUTSIDE VIEW vs. WIN6530, CRT vs. HOST PRESENTER

The installation of these programs was inconsistent, with some
workstations receiving one type of program, the others a different
program. It was suggested that manuals be purchased to help staff
troubleshoot and learn more about the various programs available to us.
Ralph Moon will inquire about purchasing such manuals, and requested that
members prepare lists of recommended titles.

SYSTEMS EMERGENCY PHONE TREE

There was concern that communications about systems problems during the
evenings and weekends had been lost. There is a systems emergency phone
tree on reflector, so take a look at it, Ralph reports this should be
sufficient.

CARS Barcode Problems

There is a problem in attaching a new barcode to book that needs repair if
there is a cars-related charge attached. Branches have taken it upon themselves
to come up with creative ways in which to work around this problem, and
there appear to be many variables. For example, MAIN CIRC will discharge
free a book of this nature,so that processing can be accomplished,
however, this procedure wipes out any charges accrued by the patron. Most
felt this to be unacceptable, as they felt the patron should still be
liable for the charges accrued on the material. Other methods were also
discussed.

PSAG needs to determine what we are going to do about this problem. Judith
Weeks will send via e-mail to the group some examples of techniques she uses to
get around this problem and will make recommendations to PSAG. Issues of
concern include:

circulation history
billing history
ability to circulate material

Open Discussion

Kate Fletcher plans to offer a Tech Services training class this month,
and since this is a new program, would like input and/or questions from
the group as to what sort of focus theyd like to see in this training.
If there are any problems with OUTSIDE VIEW, please inform Ralph Moon. You
will need to call the HELPDESK and get a ticket no.to have WIN 6530
installed on your computer.

The next meeting is scheduled for Nov.4th.
