CHARGING MATERIALS HELD IN TECHNICAL PROCESSING UNITS -
(USE OF THE "BRPR" INSTITUTIONAL PATRON ID) Revised:

The BRPR (Branch Processing Shelves) is an institutional patron ID to be used
for charging materials that are held in technical processing units. These
charges display in the online catalog (see Example 1).
Materials charged to BRPR may include but are not limited to:
- journal volumes ready for binding that lack issues
- journal volumes needing repair that lack pages
- unbound issues of journals with loose pages
- monographs needing repair that lack pages
- brittle books or journal volumes waiting for replacement or withdrawal decisions
Incomplete unbound journal volumes should be charged in one V/C field, with
the volume information showing only the issues the library has (see Example
2).
Include a *n note explaining the status of missing or replacement orders (see
Example 3).
Set the due date depending when ordered materials are expected or when you
wish to review items charged to BRPR. Do not add barcodes to unbarcoded
items (they will usually have to be later charged to Conservation or Bindery
and will eventually get new barcodes).
If materials charged to BRPR are allowed to circulate, they are charged out
manually to patrons, so as not to delete the BRPR charge. The circulation
or photocopy of brittle books should be permitted only with the approval of
the Branch selector.
A list of materials charged to BRPR may be created using the inventory command
in AutoCirc.
