Introduction

Welcome to the new Berkeley Processing Manual (BPM). Formerly the Branch Processing Manual, this new version contains the same documentation which has been re-designed and re-organized for easier use. Many new procedures are still being written, so check back here to see what's new.

Design

Considering that the BPM is almost exclusively content driven, all graphics used in this new version are purely functional and are minimal in size. The BPM is also very large (the serials manual itself has about 70 documents), so easier navigation was the prime consideration in using any graphics at all. Just about all images link to somewhere within the manual. To see where it goes, simply rest your mouse on the image until some text appears explaining where the image will take you should you click on it. In most cases, this is obvious at a first glance.

Organization/Layout

As with the previous BPM, procedures are organized according to their primary function. These functions are indicated by the red buttons on the left side of this table. There are two major changes: 1.) a new "Storage" function which is still in the process of being written, and 2.) no more "Branch Receipt and Processing." These procedures still exist, although they have been incorporated into the other main functions as appropriate. These red buttons will appear on every function's main page, so that it is easier to jump from one section to another. There will also be an image at the top of every page indicating which section you are in.

Another new feature is the navigation bar you will see at the very top of every page. When you put your mouse on a category, a menu will automatically appear with links to other functions and procedures. When you move your mouse away, the menu will automatically disappear as to not interfere with the content. The navigation bar's categories and menu contents will change depending on where you are within the BPM.

Revisions/Suggestions

All documentation in the BPM is written by processing staff from various units. Most sections contain names of those responsible for that particular content. Should you have any suggestions/questions, please contact these people directly, who will then let the BPM data owner know of any changes necessary. If you are in doubt of who to contact, then just email the BPM data owner directly.
