revised March 1998
FIELD 856 (ELECTRONIC FORMAT) for a URL
(for other access methods, consult MARC guidelines)
Indicators for the field (expanded 8/97 by LC). Those commonly used are in bold:

0 Email 0 Resource
1 FTP 1 Version of resource
2 Remote login (Telnet) 2 Related resource
3 Dial-up 8 No display constant generated
4 HTTP
7 Method specified in subfield $2
To note an electronic version of a finding aid:
856 42 $3[Materials specified]:$u[URL]
Example:
856 42 $3Finding aid:$uhttp://sunsite.berkeley.edu:38008/ead/calher/strike/

Example: a single photograph from a small collection is digitized
856 41 $3Mark Twain portrait:$uhttp://sunsite.berkeley.edu/image/
