Dayna Holz [Environmental Design Archives] announced the EDA's lecture and=

book-signing event November 18. Dianne Harris, Associate Professor=20
landscape history at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and=20
author of Maybeck's Landscapes: Drawing in Nature (William Stout=20
Publishers, 2005) will be the guest lecturer. 7:00-9:00pm in the=20
Environmental Design Library, 210 Wurster Hall
2. Function Council Reports
WAG: Elizabeth Byrne, on behalf of Sue Koskinen (not present), reported=20
that WAG has not met.
Technical Services Council: Paul Hamburg announced that there will be a=20
meeting next week. He also briefly shared his thoughts on the need for=20
thorough communication and a certain degree of transparency in the process=
=20
of the Technical Services Review, directed by Ginny Moon.
Collections Council: David Sullivan briefly reported that council meeting=
=20
minutes would soon be available and that the search for AUL Head of=20
Collections is proceeding with interviews in December.
3. "RSS & Wikis for Smart Librarians" presented by Harrison Dekker and Tim=
=20
Dennis
Harrison Dekker provided the Council with a general introduction to 2=20
information management tools, "Wikis" and RSS. A "Wikis" is a web=20
application that allows multiple users to access, manipulate, and revise=20
documents in an efficient way and with persistent archiving. RSS is a=20
format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites.
Tim Dennis then delivered several demonstrations on how to use "Wikis" and=
=20
RSS, noting some best practices and pitfalls. One that he demonstrated was=
