1. Announcements

Phyllis Bischof, a recipient of the Star Award for the month of July,
bequeathed the Star Award for August to Shayee Khanaka "for her civility
and unfailing good cheer that, when coupled with her commitment to
excellence, mean that sharing her workplace is a privilege." The
presentation was made by Allan Urbanic in behalf of Phyllis, who could not
attend the Council meeting. The Star Award program stipulates that the
previous recipient selects an appropriate venue for the presentation of the
next award. Phyllis chose the joint Arts & Humanities/Social Sciences
Council meeting as a fitting public venue to honor Shayee's accomplishments.

Kathryn Wayne announced the Faculty Collaboration Workshop, a library-wide
workshop sponsored by the Arts & Humanities Council to be held November 15,
2002 at the Men's Faculty Club. Selectors were encouraged to sign up.

2. Online Archive of California

Robin Chandler, California Digital Library and Manager of the Online
Archive of California provided a description of the primary resources found
in the OAC www.oac.cdlib.org. She discussed three major areas: 1) Emerging
Vision for CDL 2) Primary Resources and 3) Building an infrastructure to
support these resources. Robin responded to questions from both councils on
the structure of the archive, its future plans for development. The group
invited her to come back to provide a more specific training session to staff.
