Kronos upgrade (E. Woods):
The current version of Kronos is two versions behind, so the upgrade will be from version 3.4 to 5.1. The new version will be entirely web-based. Tentative implementation date is set for late spring after the end of the semester. E. Woods is currently using the test version. The user identification logon system has not yet been finalized but may require CalNet authentication, which is the campus standard for security purposes. The convention for naming the Kronos userids may be using email addresses. Since the current version is no longer supported, the 8 other campus departments are also converting. Payroll is the functional owner and plans are being made to offer online as well as classroom training in its use.
Performance evaluations (S. Wong):
This fall merit decisions will be made and the Chancellor wants a strong, structured method in place by then. He expects that managers and supervisors will meet with staff throughout the year to discuss their goals and achievements, setting the stage for the evaluations. The object of this system is to provide significant increases for top performers. The campus has issued guidelines and the current library procedures are fine for the most part. Employees will need effective goals in place this spring and all employees will likely be evaluated at the same time. A gross pool of perhaps 3%-4% will be used to provide the increases with staff members receiving varying amounts depending on their performance. Questions were raised about whether this plan would conflict with any union agreements currently in place and whether the plan would apply to the librarian series. The answers have yet to be determined.
Doe Annex seismic project (F. Yasaki):
An Early Bird will be scheduled in March to disseminate the construction information and schedule. Current Doe restrooms will be upgraded before the Annex restrooms are closed. The Doe Library third floor men’s room (near Conference Room 303) and first floor women’s room (adjacent to the Brown Gallery) will be open to staff and the public. The current second and fourth floor women’s rooms will be open for staff. A unisex ADA compliant restroom will be available in the Doe Library basement (near Newspapers/Microforms in the Doe Core) and will be accessible by a key, which will be kept at the South Security Desk. This work will be done by early April, before the Annex restrooms will be closed and “soft demolition” begin. Fences will be installed around the Annex and there will be two construction trailers on the east side, but main Campanile foot access will be maintained. The road will still be open but used heavily by construction staff. Hard demolition, which is predicted to be noisier, will begin in June after finals. Construction hours will basically be 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM with the noisiest activity in the early hours.
Budget update (M. Rancer):
Budget calls have gone out from the Chancellor basically indicating that there will be no additional moneys available. The new money coming in from the state has been earmarked for raises and specific projects. Units are encouraged to use funds already on their books and being carried forward. One positive note is that the library is now able to fill vacancies occurring due to retirements and departures.
Security improvements (M. Rancer):
In the initial effort to identify security issues the majority of issues were Doe-Moffitt oriented. Those issues should be solved there. The new Library Security Committee being formed will explore those issues that apply to all libraries.
The next meeting is scheduled for May 9th.
