Attended by: Imani Abalos, Simon Bockie (recorder), Debbie Jan, Seyem
Petrites, Michael Rancer (Chair), Dave Rez, Linda Vida, Susan Wong, Elise
Woods, and Jill Woolums.
Announcement:
After serving for two years, Linda Vida is leaving the Council and
introduced Seyem Petrites as the new representative for the affiliated
libraries.
Update on the Bidding Process for the Public Copier Contract:
Mike informed the group that the current contract will expire on August
31st, 2004. Actually, there are six bidders and the deadline for
submitting proposals was extended to December 5. Xerox is one of the
bidders. The ranking of proposals will be completed by the end of January.
In the new contract, the Library will push for an earning of 10-15%
because this is the money used to buy Library office equipment. As we
already know gray or credit cards are being phased out.
Elise announced that Thursday and Friday, November 14 and 15 were the two
days student supervisors were slated for training on how student employees
will enter personal identification information into the new clocks set to
start Monday, November 17.
LHRD - update:
Susan informed us that LHRD has scheduled one session of open enrollment
benefits to be given at different library locations. All Library employees
are encouraged to attend one of the presentations. She reminded us that
all library staff and student employees are expected to take and pass the
on-line course on sexual harassment. She also announced that Library
Assistants in CUE will start getting shift pay differential of 37 cents an
hour when working after 6pm. This pay differential is retroactive to 2000
and about ten LAs will be affected throughout the Library, mostly from RRC
and Circulation.
Space Planning Facilities:
Fred Yasaki was unable to attend the meeting but Mike was able to update
the group on a few important issues:
24-hour study hall at Moffitt starts next month. The Library is gearing up
to reduce the amount of food and drinks in the library. Security monitors
will be constantly roving and janitorial service will be increased.
FSM - Based on a customer satisfaction survey that was conducted, seating
capacity on the terrace will be increased and one-third of the terrace
will be covered, all to be paid with dedicated donor funds. Tables will be
set in a specific way in order to convey a sense of privacy and
separation. Expected to open in spring.
Seismic improvement for the Annex -- work will take two years to
complete. In the meantime the following moves are planned:
Systems programmers and ROHO will go to Evans Hall and will return after
two years; Workstation and Network Support Unit will not be affected.
Periodicals will permanently move to the second floor, East Reading Room
(formerly GSSI); Newspapers & Microfilm will move to the Doe Core.
Krouzian and Stone Rooms (Bancroft) will stay put, work will be done
around them.
Bancroft and Librarian's Office will move to various locations but will
eventually return.
Mark Twain will go to the new building on Oxford and Hearst.
