1. Announcements
Job Stress Survey will kick off with an Early Bird on 10/23. Surveys will
be distributed on 10/31, with a due date of 11/9.
K. Starkweather reminded council members to encourage staff to attend the
training sessions HR is currently scheduling. HR received special funding
for a variety of library training sessions and staff should take advantage
of them.
2. Kronos Update (E. Woods)
LBS will be comparing the paper and online timesheets soon from the
parallel test pay period (9/21-10/20). Most supervisors have been keying in
hours for SLEs. Kronos goes "live" on 10/21/01. Timecards will be
keypunched for the first half of this "live"period until 11/11/01. The
second half of the pay period will be calculated by Kronos. (10/21-11/20).
The December 8th paycheck will be computed from the Kronos data feed
through the interface to payroll. The next pay period, beginning with 12/21
-1/14/01 will be a transition month to a new standard pay period of the
15th through the 14th of the month. Supervisors will no longer project
time beginning with the current pay period. Kronos does not allow
projecting time and our Central Payroll Office is excited that we will
report actual time worked instead of projecting one month, then correcting
hours the following month. This will be a workload reduction at both the
department and central office level. A notice will go out to students and
supervisors in November advising them of the change in pay period and
elimination of projected time. The pay date of the 8th will remain the same.
3. LHRD Director search update (K. Starkweather)
As of the week of 10/8 about 150 applications had been received. A sub
group of the search committee did an initial screening, which resulted in
about 10 applications for potential further review. A second screening
netted a few other possible candidates. Additional applications have been
received and will be screened. Candidates have been contacted for a
supplemental application - an essay which answers several questions.
(see http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/LHRD/HRsuppapp.html) The first official
review of the applications is 10/31, although the job will be posted until
filled. Kay indicated that UCLA was also recruiting for a similar
position, though posted at a higher level there.
4. Library Emergency Procedures
M. Rancer asked if council members felt the Library's emergency procedures
were up to date and adequately distributed. Council members felt they were.
5. L. Vida announced that Sciences Council requested Administrative
Services Council agendas be sent to allusers several days before the
meetings so that library staff could contact their representatives with
questions or comments before the meeting. M. Rancer agreed to do so.
6. M. Rancer announced that Admin. Services Council will move to a
bimonthly meeting schedule until ASC agendas get busier.
