Family Collection
The Asia Foundation A large number of books,
documents, pamphlets, periodicals and other materials provided by the Asia
Foundation in 1950, including works in the Indonesian language, Pali
tripitaka in Burmese script and other scarce items. In 1983 the Asia
Foundation donated its pamphlet collection to the South/Southeast Asia
Library.
Barrows
Papers A collection of David P. Barrows' books, diaries
manuscripts, photographs, maps and papers, including materials on the
Philippines for the 1900-1909 period when Barrows held several government
positions there culminating in his appointment as general supervisor of
education for six years.
Briggs Gifts Former U.S. Consul donated a large
number of precious items on Indonesia, Indochina and the Malay
Peninsula.
CORMOSEA
Technical Processes Archives This is a collection of historical
technical processes files about Southeast Asia cataloging and
classification issues collected by CORMOSEA (Committee on Research
Materials on Southeast Asia), Subcommittee on Technical Processes from
1980-1990. Very useful reference source for Southeast Asia cataloging.

The
Hann So collection on Cambodia archive The materials of this
collection focus largely upon Cambodian-American support for the forces
opposing the Vietnamese occupation of Cambodia, in the years leading up to
the Paris Peace Accords. The collection, which includes a broad range of
documents in English, French and Khmer, spans the period 1979-1993, and is
especially strong in documenting the development of the publication "Khmer
Conscience." This collection's materials consist of approximately 100
monographs on a range of cultural, political, and historical.

Indonesian Popular Serial Fiction This
collection of popular serial fiction from Indonesia consists of
translations into Malay and Indonesian of Chinese "kung fu" stories by
Chinese Indonesian and indigenous Indonesian authors. A small number of
"Cerita silat bergambar or silat comic books are also included.

Interviews and Life Histories of Thai Writers A
collection of 48 sound tape reels containing the life histories and ideas
of Thai intellectuals writing during the 1950's - 70's. Collected by
Professor Herbert P. Phillips in 1975-76, the tapes are raw field data and
thus are highly variable in length, detail and richness. The speakers are
considered as key informants on Thai culture and include: M.R. Kukrit
Pramoj, M.L. Boonlua Kunjara Thebayasuwan, Bhuthathaad Bhikkhu, Sulak
Sivaraksa, Lao Khamhom, Angkhan Kanlayanaphong, Puey Ungphakorn, Suchit
Wongthet, Chintana Yaudsunthormn, Rong Wongsawan, Vasit Dejkhunjorn, Seni
Sauvapong and Archin Banchaphaan.

Malay narrative poems from South Kalimantan written in
Jawi script Collection of photocopied Malay manuscripts written
in Jawi script and consisting of narrative poems (syair). They probably
date from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.

Maps of Southeast Asia The Earth Sciences/Map
Library has a wealth of maps and nautical charts of Southeast Asia,
exclusive of world maps and general maps of Asia and the Pacific and
Indian Oceans. The Map Collection also has atlases and gazetteers of
Southeast Asia. Maps and charts are also located in 50 McCone Hall and the
East Asian Library holds a large collection of World War II Japanese Army
maps which include Southeast Asia.
McFarland
Collection One of the earliest and most important American
missionary families in Thailand, donated a major archive of materials
related to Thailand between 1860 and 1950. In addition to some rare
editions of of early Thai printed books, the collection includes numerous
photographs of Thailand dating from as early as the 1860's, and journals,
diaries, notes, and scrapbooks written by various members of the McFarland
family. A particularly valuable group of photographs was taken at Angkor
and other archaelogical sites in Cambodia and Thailand, some dating back
to 1878.

John Spragens
Collection This collection includes fiction and poetry from
North and South Vietnam; history and memoirs mainly from North Vietnam;
academic journals and popular periodocals from the North. It also includes
a number of English-language tiles from the North, including a nearly
complete series of the journal, Vietnamese Studies. Additionally, it
includes sound reels recorded by John Spragens from the front window at
his house at 66/6 Pham Hong Thai street in Tra Vinh, Vietnam, Aug. 31,
1967-Feb. 20, 1968. These reels includes everyday sounds of people as well
as the sounds of planes and bombing. These reels are cataloged under the

Swift
Family Collection A collection of Buddhist palm leaf
manuscripts from Thailand, some of which figured prominently in "The
Written Word Remains", a display of manuscripts and rare printed books
from South and Southeast Asia assembled from libraries, faculty and
private collectors, and exhibited in the Main Library from March to June
1977. The Library also holds the priceless photographs and artifacts of
material culture collected by early American scholars such as David P.
Barrows, R. F. Barton, Alfred Kroeber and Bernard Moses. (Call # :
