Dadi's Family. A portrait of a farming family in India which focuses on Dadi, the grandmother, who manages a large household of sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren and tries to hold the extended family together despite external and internal changes. Looks at the role and lives of women, who become members of their husband's family upon marriage. 59 min. Video/C 347

Islam and Feminism Film examines the inequities in Pakistan's Islamic law, which does not distinguish among rape, adultery and fornication. Under this law, the testimony of two women is valued as equal to that of one man. A rape victim can be charged under Islamic law with having had extramarital sex. This report examines these contradictions, and introduces efforts of women's organizations to battle the severe discrimination which Pakistani women must endure. Video/C 3051

Kamala and Raji. Two working women in Ahmedabad, India, try to organize their fellow workers. Kamala is an organizer for the Self-Employed Women's Association and Raji is a representative of the vegetable sellers. 46 min. Video/C 1786

Modern Brides: Arranged Marriage in South India. Describes two middle-class brahman marriages in Mysore, South India in 1983. Through interviews with the brides, the grooms, and other members of their families, the film represents varying views on marriage, family loyalty, and family status. 30 min. Video/C 3378

The Preferred Sex...The Desired Number. In many societies, a woman is valued according to her reproductive efficiency. Her status in family and community depends on her ability to bear children of the desired number and of the desired sex.
