What's on reserve
The library maintains reserve readings each semester for 40 to 45 Social Welfare and Public Health courses. If you are using reserve readings for your class, we will put all the required readings on 2-hour reserve.  We usually do not put recommended readings on reserve.

Number of copies
When the book or journal title is in our collection, we will put all copies on reserve.  Generally, 1 copy per 25 students is sufficient.  If there are problems with availability, we can accept additional personal copies or photocopies.

Loan periods
The default loan period for reserve items is 2-hours, plus overnight checkout. If your class size is small and you do not believe availability will be a problem, we can set the loan period to 1-day or 1-week loan, provided the item is not needed for other courses.

Reserve lists due date
Reserve lists are due no later than 1 month prior to the beginning of classes.  The lists should contain all the required readings and should be alphabetized by author.  Be sure to indicate the publisher, edition, and date of publication.  Please do not submit a syllabus in lieu of a reserve list.  Reserve lists are always given priority in reserve processing.
You may email your list to the reserves supervisor or fax it to (510) 643-1476.

New books
Please notify the library immediately if you anticipate using new books for your courses so we can order them without delay.  Vendors, processing, cataloging, and other requirements can add significantly to the time it takes to receive a book.  If the item has not arrived by the time classes begin, we will contact you to obtain an alternate copy.

Readers
If you are using a reader, please produce at least one bound copy for the library.  Students do ask for the library's copy.  Also, please be sure to give us a list of the contents.  We use this as a backup in case the reader is incomplete, poorly copied, delayed in production, or prohibitively expensive.

Articles
It's not necessary to give us photocopies of articles from journals or books that are in our library.  We will simply put the original source on reserve.  If the journal is not in our library, we will ask you for a copy of the article.

Do we have it?
You should check Pathfinder when you compile your list to determine whether the books or journals you will be using are available on campus.  If the book is in another campus library and not ours, we will try to borrow it.  If that library will not lend it, we will ask you for an alternate copy.  If the book is not on campus, we will decide whether to order a copy for this library.  If we do not, or if the book order is delayed, we will notify you by the beginning of classes.

Adding items
You're welcome to add material to your reserves throughout the semester.  However, please give us the material before you tell your students about it.  Please also allow at least one working day before your material is ready.  We'll return all of your material to you at the end of the semester.

Checking your reserve listing
We recommend that you check the reserve listings in the Gladis catalog yourself from time to time.  See the instructions and additional information.

If you have any questions or need help, please contact the reserves supervisor by phone (510-642-4432) or email.
