Lexis-Nexis Statistical
(online database) provides abstracts of statistical publications issued
by governments (state, federal, national), international governmental organizations,
research institutions, business, professional, and trade organizations.
Web links are available to some publications, others are available on microfiche.
Record numbers with the prefix SRI are on microfiche at the Business &
Economics Library. Record numbers with ASI or ISI prefixes are on microfiche
at the Government and Social Science Information Library.
This database allows searching in Abstracts or in Power Tables Base
Edition. A search in Abstracts allows you to search title, author, abstract,
subject/descriptors, and agency/publisher of each document. A search in
Power Tables Base Edition limits the search to title and subject/descriptors
for each publication. Use subject terms such as: Family planning; Contraceptives;
Abortion; Sexual sterilization. Combine concepts using AND or OR. For example:
abortion AND developing countries.

To find books or journals, search the library catalog by title words or keywords unless you know the Library of Congress Subject Heading for the subject you are researching. Subject headings may differ from commonly used terms. If you need help, please ask a reference librarian.

In databases that have UC-eLinks, you can use this feature to connect to the electronic version of the article when available, or to get the location of the print location of the journals. Use the Request feature of UC-eLinks to request articles from journals not available at UCB.
PubMed 1950 to present
Journal articles indexed by the National Library of Medicine.
PubMed indexes articles about all countries. It is possible to limit
subject searches to a particular geographic entity. For example, to retrieve
articles about family planning in China, enter 'family planning AND China'
(capitalization important.)
PsycINFO 1806 to present. (Access limited to UC faculty, staff and students)
Journal articles, conference proceedings, dissertations, and book chapters
indexed by the American Psychological Association.
Academic Search Complete 1865 to present. (Access limited to UC faculty, staff and students)
Indexes and abstracts articles in more than 10,900 journals and other publications in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Portuguese; full-text is available for over 5300 journals. Subject headings include: abortion, abortion services, contraception, reproductive technology, pro-choice movement, pro-life movement.
The PAIS (Public Affairs Information Service) International database includes topics
such as health policy, public health, health planning, social policy, and health services.
The database is updated monthly and indexes journal articles, books, statistical directories, conference reports, and government reports from over 120 countries.
Social
Work Abstracts 1977 to present. (Access limited to UC faculty, staff and students)
The Social Work Abstracts database, produced by the National Association
of Social Workers, contains records from social
work and other related journals on topics such as homelessness, AIDS, child
and family welfare, aging, substance abuse, legislation, community organization,
and more.
Sociological Abstracts 1963 to present. (Access limited to UC faculty, staff and students)
The Sociological Abstracts database is a major resource for accessing research sponsored in sociology and related disciplines.
