The Public Health Library welcomes gifts in all forms. Many private donors have made contributions toward the acquisition of research materials for the use of Berkeley faculty and students. This support is very important in sustaining the excellence of our collections and services.
The following methods of giving are available:
Financial support provides funding for books, online resources, specialized equipment, or special projects. Gifts may be unrestricted or support a specific library program or collection. Contributions of any amount are welcome.
Memorial Gifts and Gifts in Honor of a Person or Event
Contributions can be given in memory or in honor of a person or to mark a special occasion. A named book fund can be established for a gift of $1,000 or more and can be recognized with a bookplate. Other material purchased through the gift will be marked appropriately.
Endowment funds may be established with a gift of $50,000 or more. These funds provide the library with an annual income in perpetuity and have a lasting impact on creating a world class collection in public health. The University invests its endowments carefully to achieve a healthy rate of return that provides for both current needs and long-term growth. For collections obtained from an endowment, a special book plate will be created and placed in each book. Other material obtained from the endowment will be marked appropriately.
You may invest in the Sheldon Margen Public Health Library's future by including it in your estate plans through, for example, establishing bequests or trust. UC Berkeley's Gift Planning staff can provide assistance in determining an appropriate arrangement to meet your individual needs.
Gifts of scholarly materials have historically represented a significant element in the development of our outstanding research collections. We welcome individual gifts of books and collections, but due to space and staff limitations, we must be judicious in accepting large contributions. Please contact Debbie Jan about the materials you wish to donate.
Donors should be aware that the materials offered may be duplicates or outside the scope of the collection. In these cases, the materials may be sold by the Library and the proceeds used to purchase other materials for the collections.
