Administration for Children and Families (US DHHS)
Numerous publications, links, factsheets and more on such topics as adoption and foster care, TANF and welfare reform, child support, and more. Also includes links to statistical/data resources, policy information, and grants information.

Annie E. Casey Foundation
AECF's project areas include foster care, workforce issues, alternatives to juvenile detention, and much more. "The primary mission of the Foundation is to foster public policies, human service reforms, and community supports that more effectively meet the needs of today's vulnerable children and families." Their site includes numerous publications and other resources, as well as KIDS COUNT, a national and state-by-state project of the Casey Foundation to track the status of children in the United States. At the national level, the principal activity of the initiative is the publication of the annual KIDS COUNT Data Book, which uses the best available data to measure the educational, social, economic, and physical well-being of children state by state. The Foundation also funds a national network of state-level KIDS COUNT projects that provide a more detailed, county-by-county picture of the condition of children.

Brookings Institution - Children and Families
Research reports, policy briefs, testimony transcriptions, and other publications on child well-being and other family issues. Also see their web page on Welfare.

California HealthCare Foundation
"CHCF commissions research and analysis, publishes and disseminates information, convenes stakeholders, and funds development of programs and models aimed at improving the health care delivery and financing systems." Topics of concern include: health care financing and delivery, Medi-Cal, Medicare, Healthy Families, and more. Their reports are available online.

Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP)
"CLASP conducts research, provides policy analysis, advocates at the federal and state level, and offers information and technical assistance on a range of family policy issues for our audience of federal, state, and local policymakers; advocates; researchers; and the media." Their site includes reports, policy briefs, fact sheets, legislative analyses, and more on such topics as child welfare, disconnected youth, welfare policy, and more.

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
CBPR "conducts research and analysis to inform public debates over proposed [federal and state] budget and tax policies and to help ensure that the needs of low-income families and individuals are considered in these debates. We also develop policy options to alleviate poverty, particularly among working families. In addition, the Center examines the short- and long-term impacts that proposed policies would have on the health of the economy and on the soundness of federal and state budgets. Links ot online publications are provided. Areas of particular interest include TANF/Welfare Reform, Food Assistance, and several others.

Food and Nutrition Assistance (USDA Economic Research Service)
Numerous reports, data sets, and statistics on food assistance programs (Food Stamps, WIC, etc.). ERS also has information on rural poverty and welfare, including TANF.

Grey Literature Report (New York Academy of Medicine)
The Grey Literature Report is a bimonthly publication alerting readers to new grey literature publications in public health and similar fields, including such topics as welfare reform, TANF, addiction, and more. It is searchable by keyword, title, and more. Most records contains links to the full text of the document.

Healthy Families America
"Healthy Families America is a national program model designed to help expectant and new parents get their children off to a healthy start." Their site includes research publications on program development and other topics, and information on policy development, technical assistance, and more.

Information Resource Center, The Finance Project
IRC has publications and tools on topics such as welfare and children's services, including TANF, asset development, and income supplements, and tools such as the Promising Practices Catalog, a database of nearly 1000 "programs, practices, and initiatives across the country that aim to improve the futures of children, families and communities."

Institute for Research on Poverty
"IRP is a center for interdisciplinary research into the causes and consequences of poverty and social inequality in the United States." Research focuses on Welfare Reform, child support, food assistance, methodological issues, and more.

Kaiser Family Foundation
KFF focuses on the major healthcare issues facing the nation. The web site contains numerous reports, fact sheets, policy briefs, and more. Topics include Medicaid, with sub-topics children, long-term care enrollment, spending, TANF, etc.; state health policy; HIV/AIDS; health insurance coverage; Medicare, and more. Also available are e-mail updates on your topic of interest, as well as state health data, health policy reports, health polls, and more.

Mathematica Policy Research, Inc.
Mathematica provides "high-quality, objective research to support decisions about our nation's most pressing social policy problems. The firm has conducted studies of health care, welfare, education, employment, nutrition, and early childhood policies and programs in the United States." Their publications are browsable by broad topics, such as "welfare", or you can search their online publications database. They also provide information on survey design, program evaluation, and policy simulation.

National Clearinghouse on Families and Youth
NCFY is an information service with information on developing new and effective strategies for supporting young people and their families. NCFY was established by the Family and Youth Services Bureau, US DHHS to link those interested in youth issues with the resources they need to better serve young people, families, and communities. The literature database contains abstracts of more than 13,500 publications on youth and family issues, including links to or information on obtaining the full document. There is also information on grants.

National Conference of State Legislators: Human Services
"The latest information on America's key public policy issues, information about the latest in state-federal relations, and access to the work of NCSL's Standing Committees." Reports and information on welfare reform, child support and family law, youth, and more. Also available are e-mail update services on any of NCSL's topics of interest. NCSL reviews many other issue areas, including Criminal Justice and Health Care.

National Implementation Research Network
"The mission of the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN) is to close the gap between science and service by improving the science and practice of implementation in relation to evidence-based programs and practices." Their web site contains training materials, implementation guides, evaluation resources, reports, and other documents, including Implementation Research: A Synthesis of the Literature (2005)

Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (US DHHS)
ASPE "is the principal advisor to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on policy development, and is responsible for major activities in policy coordination, legislation development, strategic planning, policy research, evaluation, and economic analysis." Numerous reports are available online on topics such as child welfare, family and marriage issues, homelessness, Medicaid, poverty, welfare, and much more. Their site is searchable by topic, program, population group, ASPE Office, or various combinations of these.

Public Policy Institute of California
"PPIC's research focuses on three program areas: population, economy, and governance and public finance. Studies within these programs are examining the underlying forces shaping California's future, cutting across a wide range of public policy concerns: the California economy, education, employment and income, immigration, infrastructure and urban growth, poverty and welfare, state and local finance, and the well-being of children and families." Many of PPIC's publications are available online. PPIC's statewide surveys are also available on their web site.

RAND
"RAND is a nonprofit institution that helps improve policy and decisionmaking through research and analysis." Focus areas include child policy, environment and energy, health, international policy, population and regional studies, and social welfare. Numerous reports are available online. RAND also sponsors the Promising Practices Network, "dedicated to providing quality evidence-based information about what works to improve the lives of children, families, and communities." PPN's site includes a Programs that Work database, information on service delivery, as well as a page of California priority issues.

The Research Forum Research Database
"The Research Forum's database was designed to provide researchers, policymakers, and practitioners easy access to research projects related to welfare and income security; child/familiy issues; and community/neighborhood issues. Database information is current through December 2005 when Research Forum operations ceased." The database can be searched by project status, population group, state, outcome, and more; or it can be browsed.

Urban Institute
The Urban Institue " analyzes policies, evaluates programs, and informs community development to improve social, civic, and economic well-being" in the United States and abroad. Their web site include research reports on adoption, insurance, state welfare programs, domestic violence, and much more. They also provide access to data from the National Survey of America's Families, the Welfare Rules Database, the TANF Typologies Database, and more.
