The Fong Optometry and Health Sciences Library collection includes over 15,000 volumes of books and journals in the fields of optometry, ophthalmology, and vision science. Within these areas are included anatomy, physiology, neurology, biochemistry, pathology, and microbiology of the visual organs of humans and other animals; visual and color perception; ocular pharmacology; occupational and environmental vision; ophthalmic photography; low vision and blindness; history of optometry; and the social, legal, economic, and professional aspects of eye care. Electronic media, slides, videos, and audiocassettes are also collected. Slides and videos are shelved by call number in their own sections.
The Health Sciences collection includes textbooks in health and medicine, material on health and medical education, on doing research in health and medicine and selected resources in medical informatics.
Many other science libraries and some social science library collections support fields related to optometry, ophthalmology, vision and health sciences.
UC students, faculty, and staff are given service priority and should be prepared to show UC campus identification. Anyone, however, may use the collection; a photocopy machine is available. To charge out material, students are required to have a current photo-ID; all others need a library card obtainable from the Privileges Desk in Doe Library.
