The Fong Optometry and Health Sciences Library welcomes gifts in all forms. Many private donors have made contributions toward the acquisition of research materials for the use of Berkeley faculty and students. This support is very important in sustaining the excellence of our collections and services.
The following methods of giving are available:
Financial support provides funding for books, online resources, specialized equipment, or special projects. Gifts may be unrestricted or support a specific library program or collection. Contributions of any amount are welcome.
Memorial Gifts and Gifts in Honor of a Person or Event
Contributions given in memory or in honor of a person or to mark a special occasion such as a graduation are recognized with a bookplate. A named book fund can be established for a gift of $1,000 or more.
Endowment funds may be established with a gift of $50,000 or more. These funds provide the library with an annual income in perpetuity and have a lasting impact on creating a world class collection in optometry, vision, and health sciences. The University invests its endowments carefully to achieve a healthy rate of return that provides for both current needs and long-term growth. A special book plate will be created and placed in each book. You can contribute directly to the Fong Library endowment by using the online form.
You may invest in the Fong Optometry and Health Sciences Library's future by including it in your estate plans through, for example, establishing bequests or trust. UC Berkeley's Gift Planning staff can provide assistance in determining an appropriate arrangement to meet your individual needs.
Gifts of scholarly materials have historically represented a significant element in the development of our outstanding research collections. We welcome individual gifts of books and collections, but due to space and staff limitations, we must be judicious in accepting large contributions. Please contact Bette Anton about the materials you wish to donate.
Donors should be aware that the materials offered may be duplicates or outside the scope of the collection. In these cases, the materials may be sold in the Library Bookstore, and the proceeds used to purchase other materials for the collections. Information on appraisals and tax deductions is available.
