"Part of a special section on Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain. The role of the male gay audience member is thoroughly prescribed in the controversy surrounding Brokeback Mountain. He serves as the film's natural partisan, so intrinsically identified with it that he must cry homophobia when it fails to win an Oscar, and he is to accept the bad faith of its boosters, who claim that the film is for" him, when it is merely about" him. He is to express gratitude at seeing the damage done by the Closet exposed, and he is to forfeit his reputation for taste by confusing an average piece of Hollywood product for a significant work of art. Indeed, erotic disappointment may be the only true homosexual response to Brokeback Mountain--and hence the only true foundation for a political analysis of the film." [Art Index]

Discusses how the film 'Suddenly Last Summer,' directed by Joseph Mankiewicz was able to show the relationship of gay men to the spectacle of femininity and, in particular, the female buttocks. Techniques used to portray homosexuality in the film; Ways in which the body of the female character is implicated in male homosexuality; Discusses how the use of the female body to attract men with anal erotics will make the men manifest a potential to direct them to the male sex.

"Back to the Future." Camera Obscura: A Journal of Feminism, Culture, and Media Studies, vol. 27, pp. 109-32, Sept 1991
The article explores Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" which suggests that the farther one travels into the future the more profoundly he encounters the past. The film invokes expressionist cinema through its use of shadows, smoke, and unusual camera angles, and fashion of the 1930s as well as the 1940s through the clothes Rachel wears. The film presents a very different account of both the human and the android psyche and it suggests that the viewer can discover more about his or her own psychic organization by studying Rachel, Leon, Pris and Batty than by looking at Deckard. In an important scene near the beginning of the film, Deckard administers the Voight-Kampff test to Rachel which reveals her to be a replicant, but she believes herself to be human.
