About the Library Systems Office
The Library Systems Office provides the following services as an essential
part of the Library computing infrastructure. These may not be services
that are specifically requested by Library staff.
Server/System Support

Server Software Installation - The LSO compiles, installs, and configures
server software (as opposed to data.)

Unix Servers - The LSO adds hardware, upgrades operating system,
diagnoses problems, tunes for performance; compiles, installs and configures
server software; supports the Library World-Wide Web, FTP servers, email
system, image databases, CJK display of GLADIS records, and listserver
services.

LAN (Local Area Network) Services - The LSO installs, upgrades,
maintains, troubleshoots and diagnoses problems, adds accounts, loads shared
applications; supports Library WNE workstations and CD-ROM towers.

GLADIS Operations- The LSO integrates data from external sources
(cataloging from utilities, NRLF storage barcodes, acquisitions information,
etc.); runs regularly scheduled production jobs (circulation notices, etc.)

GLADIS Hardware and Software - The LSO selects, installs, tests
and maintains GLADIS/Tandem hardware and software. Maintains and balances
GLADIS system.
Workstation Support

Testing and Evaluation - The LSO tests and evaluates workstation
hardware and software to ensure compatibility with the UC Berkeley network
environment; recommends Library standard software and hardware.

Keeping Up-to-Date - The LSO keeps up-to-date with technology; maintains
current awareness of new technologies which can be integrated into the
Library computing environment.
Network Support

Network Support- The LSO plans new network services in conjunction
with Data Communications and Network Services of IST; troubleshoots network
problems.

Cisco Terminal Server Administration - The LSO installs, upgrades,
maintains; troubleshoots and diagnoses problems. Updates configuration
files, coordinates new applications and technical requirements.
