Academic Merit and Special Reviews

November 1-15, 2012:
Review Initiators will confer with librarians. Any librarian who is not automatically scheduled for a merit review during this review period but who wishes to be reviewed should inform the Review Initiator by November 15. Candidates and Review Initiators may begin to assemble documentation at any time.
December 3, 2012 to January 31, 2013:
Review Initiators and librarians should put together the formal documentation which will be used in the review. This should include:

Review Initiator's and Unit Head's recommendation.

Librarian's signed self-evaluation.

Carefully chosen copies of reports, articles and books which the candidate has authored or edited and other documentation which the candidate believes may be of assistance in the evaluation. New or updated Biography Form 1501 available online at http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/LHRD/forms.html

Librarians at or above the rank of Librarian III are expected to prepare more complete documentation of significant achievement. This may include names from which letters of evaluation may be solicited. Those should be provided to the Review Initiator by December 3, 2012.
January 2-25, 2013:
Any requests for deferral of a scheduled merit increase review must be made to the Review Initiator and CAPA by January 25 at the latest.
February 1 to March 11, 2013:
Review Initiators should prepare and submit formal merit increase recommendations to the Library Human Resources Department no later than March 11.
March 12-29, 2013:
The Library Human Resources Department forwards documentation for all merit increases in the Librarian series (including accelerated and decelerated merits) to CAPA.
April 1 to May 10, 2013:
CAPA reviews dossiers for Library-wide parity and confers with the University Librarian about any problems.
May 31, 2013:
Last date for CAPA to forward documentation and recommendations to the University Librarian.
June 2013:
The University Librarian makes advancement decisions, consults with CAPA as required.
