Librarian Internal Competitive
Reassignment Policy
It is in the best interest of the Library to
recruit externally to fill career academic positions. However, if reassignment
is the only feasible option for filling a vacancy, an internal, competitive
process is the preferred st rategy. Reasons for choosing internal, competitive
reassignment instead of open recruitment would include, but not be limited
to:
-
To provide special opportunities for librarians to build upon skills already
acquired and/or to develop new areas of expertise in support of library
functions and priorities.
-
To implement strategic priorities requiring the transfer of focus from
one area to another.
-
To reassign staff to meet minimum service levels in times of restricted
funds.
If it is necessary to fill a position through competitive reassignment
the University Librarian or his/her designee, will consider the needs of
the department/unit, the length of the assignment, timing, funding, strategic
priorities, and sk ills of the librarians in the available pool. Whenever
internal competitive reassignment or rotation is announced, CAPA will be
consulted with regard to the posting.
