Reference and Instruction Librarian (50%-time position)
Thomas J. Long Business Library

Hiring range: Assistant Librarian I - Associate Librarian IV
Full-time salary range: $47,544 - $58,188, depending upon qualifications

This is a 50%-time, one-year temporary appointment available starting August 2012.

The Environment

The UC Berkeley Library is an internationally renowned research and teaching facility at one of the nation's premier public universities that serves 25,500 undergraduate students, 10,000 graduate students, and 2,000 faculty members. The Library is comprised of approximately 20 libraries, including the Doe/Moffitt Libraries, The Bancroft Library, and the C.V. Starr East Asian Library collectively offering extensive collections in all formats and robust services to connect users with those collections and build their related research skills. The Library is a member of the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), and the Research Libraries Group (RLG), and is an active participant in the California Digital Library (CDL). The Thomas J. Long Business Library is located in the Haas School of Business, but reports to the University Library. Its mission is to serve the information needs of more than 2,000 students, faculty, and staff in the Haas School as well as other campus departments. The Long Library holds more than 100,000 print volumes, 1.4 million microforms, and thousands of serials in print and electronic formats. In addition, a large digital library of business information is provided through links on the library's homepage. The staff consists of 2 FTE librarians, 2 FTE operations staff, and 10-12 student library employees. More information about the Long Library is available at http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/BUSI/.

Responsibilities

This half-time position reports to the Head of the Long Business Library. The Reference and Instruction Librarian will:

UC Berkeley librarians are expected to participate in library-wide planning and governance, to work effectively in a shared decision-making environment and to be active professionally. Professional contributions beyond the primary responsibilities are required for advancement in the Librarian series. The successful candidate will show promise or evidence of such contributions.
